What's The Avis Class Action About?
Avis Rent A Car recently reported a data breach to their computer system in which hackers accessed the information of 299,006 people. The information exposed may differ from individual to individual but may involve personal contact and financial information. You can learn more about it below.
$45 Million Avis Class Action Lawsuit
Previously, a $45 Million Class Action Lawsuit has been settled with Avis, a huge car rental company based in the United States. The settlement will pay consumers who allegedly had been charged for electronic tolling in Avis or Budget car rental vehicles in violation of terms of the car rental agreement. In addition, the Avis Budget class action lawsuit alleged that the toll fees violated the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
Avis Budget has not accepted the allegations or admitted to any wrongdoing. The court or judge in the case did not decide in favor of any of the parties. However, Avis Budget decided to settle the $45 Million agreement in order to avoid potential costs of a trial as well as wasted resources that draw time and effort away from its core business in favor of moving past the settlement..
How Do I Qualify?
You may qualify for a cash reward in the Avis Budget class action settlement fund if you rented an Avis or Budget vehicle in the United States at any time between April 1, 2007 and December 31, 2015. If you rented an Avis or Budget vehicle in Colorado, Texas, or FLorida, the time period is reduced to: March 2, 2009 through December 31, 2015. Additionally, you qualify if you paid Avis, Budget, or their toll processing company, known as "HTA" for the use of toll payments when you rented a vehicle. These charges may have been marked as a "convenience fee".
How Much Money Can I Get?
Any class member that files a valid claim on time, before the deadline will receive between an average amount of $9.36 and $46.07 depending on how many rental transactions you were charged. Each rental transaction means any vehicle rental in which an electronic ("e-toll") fee or charge had occurred and was charged on top of your rental contract and sum in your rental agreement.
Do I Need Proof to File a Claim?
No proof is required for the Avis Budget class action settlement. The class action administrator will ask you to check off that you can be paid based on their records of your car rental charges.
