What is The Acura Hands-Free Class Action Settlement About?
A class action settlement has been reached with Honda over alleged defects in some Acura model cars. The open class action lawsuit, Aberin et al v. American Honda Motor Co., Inc., alleged that American Honda Motor Co., Inc. failed to disclose a defect in the "hands-free" calling system, HandsFreeLink™ ("HFL"), offered in certain Acura vehicles, including the 2004-2008 TL, 2005-2008 MDX, and 2007-2009 RDX models.Honda and Acura claim that this alleged defect caused them to suffer out-of-pocket losses and other damages. However, AHM denies these allegations and any wrongdoing. However, they have decided to settle the class action lawsuit and pay out qualified consumers who had affected Acura or Honda models.
How Do I Qualify for a Payout?
You may be eligible for a payout from the settlement if you purchased one of the following automobile models:• 2004-2008 Acura TL
• 2005-2008 Acura MDX
• 2007-2009 Acura RDX
The purchase of the above cars must have been made in certain states in the U.S., before the vehicles reached 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurred first. The following states are listed according the class action notice:

If the settlement is approved and you submit a valid and timely claim, you may qualify for:• An HFL (HandsFreeLink™) Replacement Reimbursement for actual out-of-pocket payments for parts or labor (whether paid to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer or a third party) up to $500, and/or
• An HFL (HandsFreeLink™) Disconnection Payment in the amount of $350.
How do I file a claim?

Based on the claim form instructions, you can submit multiple claims for the same vehicle if you had the HandsFreeLink (HFL) unit replaced or disconnected more than once before the vehicle reached 10 years or 120,000 miles. Specifically, the instructions state:For the HFL Replacement Reimbursement:
"If you paid to have the HFL replaced in your vehicle on more than one occasion, you may be entitled to multiple HFL Replacement Reimbursements if you can submit the necessary proof for each HFL Replacement."
Do I Need Proof of Purchase?
You may need to provide some form of proof or records demonstrating your eligibility for whichever claim type you are filing. For the HFL Replacement Reimbursement, the instructions on the official class action notice and administrator's site (see below) state that the proof you submit must demonstrate:(1) HFL unit in your eligible Acura vehicle was replaced.
(2) Your vehicle was diagnosed with excessive parasitic drain before the HFL unit was replaced.
(3) You or someone on your behalf paid to have the HFL unit replaced with a new one.
(4) The HFL unit was replaced before your vehicle reached 10 years or 120,000 miles from original purchase.
Acceptable proof can include repair orders, invoices, receipts, credit card/bank records, pictures, etc. For the HFL Disconnection Payment, the proof must show either:
(1) You had the HFL unit disconnected before your vehicle reached 10 years or 120,000 miles.
(2) Your vehicle suffered excessive parasitic drain from the HFL unit that was not corrected or replaced before 10 years/120,000 miles.
