What Happened?

The lawsuit alleged that Apple retained funds connected to certain gift-card scams after consumers were tricked into sharing redemption codes with third parties. Apple denied wrongdoing and agreed to settle.

Who Was Covered?

The settlement covered qualifying U.S. consumers who bought App Store or iTunes gift cards from January 1, 2015 through July 31, 2020, gave the codes to unknown third-party scammers, and did not receive full compensation, subject to the notice terms.

What Benefits Were Available?

Approved claimants could receive compensation tied to eligible uncompensated gift-card losses, subject to validation, deductions, and the settlement allocation rules.
