What Was the Case About?
The lawsuit alleged that Young Living engaged in deceptive marketing and sales practices by promoting its essential oils with health and wellness claims that plaintiffs said lacked reliable scientific support. The complaint pointed to marketing such as lavender oil described as promoting a feeling of calm and countering occasional nervous tension, and peppermint oil described as helping maintain energy levels, and alleged that consumers bought the products in reliance on those representations.Young Living denied the allegations and maintained that the claims against it were unsubstantiated. The company agreed to the settlement to resolve the case without any admission of wrongdoing.
Who Was Covered?
The settlement covered consumers who purchased Young Living essential oil products for personal consumption during the class period the notice described, which ran from January 1, 2017 through April 25, 2024. The official notice controlled the exact class definition and the list of covered products.What Benefits Were Available?
Claimants with proof of purchase could receive $2 per unit purchased, up to a maximum of $20 per household, and could additionally claim up to $5 for purchases made without proof. Claimants without proof of purchase could receive $1 per unit, up to a maximum of $5 per household, and had to submit a sworn statement attesting to the purchases.All approved claimants were also eligible for a $5 Young Living coupon. Coupon terms included a cap of $5,000,000 on total redemptions, a minimum $25 order, a six-month validity window, a unique code per claimant, no use on loyalty rewards orders or in combination with other offers, and a reduction in personal volume credit equal to the coupon value.
If approved claims, service awards, attorneys' fees, administration costs, taxes and other expenses exceeded the settlement fund, payments to claimants were to be reduced proportionally.
What Proof Was Required?
Filing online required the notice ID issued by the settlement administrator, which is why this page is marked Proof Required: Yes even for the no-receipt tier. The higher $2-per-unit tier required documentation of the purchases claimed. The no-proof tier required a sworn statement covering up to five products, and in some cases a paper claim form.What Happens Next?
The remaining steps were the court's ruling on final approval, the resolution of any appeal, and distribution to approved claimants. No final approval order and no payment date had been located in public sources as of July 27, 2026.
