What Is AMC Plus Settlement About?

AMC will pay $8,300,000.00 in a class action lawsuit that has been filed regarding the company violating the Video Privacy Protection Act, by disclosing their subscribers personal information (PII) to third parties without explicit consent from users.

If you subscribed or signed up for access to one of the following streaming channels or providers, you may be eligible to get a payment from the $8.3 million class action settlement: AMC+, Shudder, Acorn TV, ALLBLK, SundanceNow, and HIDIVE.

AMC+ is a premium streaming service offered by AMC Networks that was launched on June 11, 2020. AMC Networks streaming includes content from several streaming services such as the ones listed above, many of which are produced by film companies exclusively for AMC Networks and its subsidiary channels, such as SundanceNow and HIDIVE.

How Do I Know If I Qualify?

Any person in the United States that from January 18, 2021 through January 10, 2024 who registered as a user of AMC Services through an online website or mobile app owned, controlled, and/or operated by AMC or any Streaming Service may qualify for a payout from the $8.3 million class action lawsuit.

How Much Can I Get Paid?

You can get a payment from the Settlement Fund by filing a valid and timely claim form. Each qualified claimant will receive an equal distribution of the settlement, which may be determined at a later time based on the number of valid claim forms filed by the deadline. In addition, AMC Networks, Inc will provide a one week digital subscription to the AMC+ streaming service for all Settlement Class Members.

AMC Networks also declared that they won't allow third-party tracking companies to know exactly which videos a specific person watches unless the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) has amendments to allow it, the VPPA gets repealed, or if a specific court decision says it is legally okay to gather and share such information.

How Do I File a Claim and Get Paid?

To qualify for a payment from AMC Plus Class action you must submit a claim form by April 9, 2024. No proof of purchase is required to file a claim by printing out a claim form document and mailing it in to the class action administrator (see link below). In order to file claim form online you will need to provide a Notice ID and Confirmation Code that was emailed to you previously by the AMC Class Action Settlement administrators.
