Proof required: Yes
Have you shopped at The Paper Store (The Paper Co.) in the past two (2) years? Did you pay with a credit or debit card? Do you still have your receipt? If yes, you may be eligible for substantial compensation.
Did you know that it is illegal for a business to print more than the last five digits of your credit card number or any part of the card's expiration date on a receipt? The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) makes it illegal for retailers to print more than the last five numbers of your credit or debit card on a receipt, and also makes it illegal to print any of the card's expiration date. This is to prevent someone from getting hold of a lost or discarded receipt and then using your card number to make fraudulent purchases or selling it on the dark web for other criminals to use.
If a petty criminal gets their hands on your credit or debit card number and uses it to make purchases, you may not realize it until it is too late. It could then take years to correct the damage, costing you considerable money, time, mental anguish and possibly even ruining your credit. FACTA applies to printed receipts you receive when you make a purchase or withdraw money.
If you have a printed receipt from The Paper Store from the past 2 years that includes more than the last 5 digits of your debit or credit card number, you may be eligible for a payout.
Put simply FACTA, or the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act says that stores are not allowed to print your full credit or debit card number or the card's expiration date on a receipt. Only a limited amount of your card number can be shown, and no part of the expiration date. This rule helps prevent thieves from using lost or thrown-away receipts to steal your identity or make fraudulent purchases.
To qualify for the class action investigation against The Paper Co., you must meet all of the following criteria:
• You made a purchase at The Paper Store.
• You paid with a credit or debit card.
• You still have the printed receipt.
• The receipt shows more than the last five digits of your card number OR any part of the card's expiration date.
• You are a resident of New York, Florida, or Connecticut.
If you meet all five criteria, you may be eligible for substantial compensation under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA).
