What's the Bonded Abrasive Discs Class Action About?

This abrasive discs class action settlement is closed as of 2024. There is a more up-to-date abrasive discs class action settlement as of April 2024 here. The original $1,900,000 Class Action Settlement had been agreed upon over certain Bonded Abrasive Discs products produced by Freud America, Inc. Bonded abrasive discs, also known as sanding or grinding discs, used for industrial, commercial and personal use, are a common tool used for machine tooling, woodworking, masonry, and other hobby projects or commercial work.

Freud America, the North Carolina-based company that manufactures and markets bonded abrasive disc products, has been accused of fraud and false advertising in the original class action lawsuit. The class action lawsuit alleged that the bonded discs did not have the necessary disclosures that provided dates on some of the grinding or sanding discs, specifically on their "Diablo" branded bonded abrasive wheels.

While the defendant in the bonded abrasive wheel settlement agreed to pay $1.9 Million in the settlement, they have not accepted any wrongdoing on their part. In order to resolve the class action lawsuit, they have agreed to pay out to qualified consumers with or without proof of purchase.

How Do I Qualify to Get Paid?

Do I Need Proof of Purchase to File a Claim?

No, proof or documentation of purchase is not required in order to file a claim in the AC2T Bonded Abrasive Discs Class Action Settlement. There is a monetary cap set for claims that are filed without proof, which may be lower than claims where proof of purchase can be provided. The breakdown of payments is as follows:

No Proof of Purchase: For those claimants that do not have proof of purchase, they can file a claim form to receive $2.50 per product for up to 4 (four) products for a total of $10.00 per claim.

With Proof of Purchase: Those who do provide a valid claim with a proof of purchase can receive up to $50.00 per claim.

How Much Will I Get Paid?

The class action is divided into two tiers of claims:

No Proof of Purchase: Up to $10.00

With Proof of Purchase: Up to $50.00

The payouts will be determined by the total number of valid claims made before the final class action deadline of November 20, 2023. The numbers above are estimated, and may be pro rated.
