What is the NGL Refund Settlement About?
You may be part of a new $4,500,000 refund program after the Federal Trade Commission and the Los Angeles
District Attorney's Office alleged that NGL Labs used deceptive tactics tied to its anonymous messaging app.
According to the FTC, the agencies alleged NGL and its co-founders sent fake messages that appeared to come
from real people and used those messages to push users into paid subscriptions by claiming a subscription
would reveal who sent the messages.
The agencies also alleged that many users who paid for NGL Pro believed they were paying a one time fee, but
were charged a recurring weekly fee, sometimes up to $9.99, without clear knowledge and consent.
NGL agreed to pay money for refunds as part of the settlement. The Court has not ruled on the allegations as
a finding of wrongdoing.
Who is Included and Eligible to Apply for a Refund?
You may be eligible to apply for a refund if you meet all of the following:
• You paid for NGL Pro between January 2022 and July 2024
• You experienced unauthorized charges
The FTC says you must be at least 18 to complete the claim form. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian
must submit the claim form for you.
All claims will be reviewed before eligibility is determined.
How Much Can I Get Paid?
If your claim is approved, your payment amount will depend on several factors, including how many people
file claims.
There is no fixed payout amount listed. Many refund programs pay a pro rata amount based on the total pool
and the number of approved claims.
What is the NGL App?
NGL is an anonymous messaging app that lets users post a link, often through social media, to receive
anonymous responses. Some users paid for NGL Pro to access additional features.
How Popular is the NGL App?
NGL has been widely downloaded and is especially known for viral sharing through social media. Public
reporting and regulator statements have described it as popular with teens, and the enforcement action
focused heavily on youth and safety concerns.

FTC Ban on NGL Users Under 18
In July 2024, the Federal Trade Commission ordered NGL to stop allowing users under the age of 18 to use its anonymous messaging app.
According to the FTC and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, NGL unfairly marketed its app to children and teens while claiming its artificial intelligence moderation system prevented cyberbullying. Regulators alleged those claims were misleading.
The agencies also alleged that NGL violated children’s privacy laws and used deceptive tactics to push users into paid subscriptions, including sending fake messages and suggesting that paying for NGL Pro would reveal the identities of message senders.
As part of the 2024 settlement, NGL agreed to implement strict age restrictions and stop serving minors. The settlement required the company to block users under 18 from accessing the platform.
Regulators described the action as the first time a U.S. agency ordered a digital platform to stop serving minors entirely, citing concerns about online safety, harassment, and deceptive business practices.
The FTC stated that $4.5 million of the settlement funds would be used to provide refunds to affected consumers, while an additional $500,000 was paid as a civil penalty to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

marketing and youth safety. The refund process was announced in January 2026.
