You may be part of a new class action settlement reached with Amazon.com over allegations that customers
were re-charged after receiving advanced refunds on returns. The class action lawsuit claims that consumers
properly returned items
using Amazon's official return process, received an "advanced refund", and were later billed again when
Amazon
stated the item never arrived.
What is the Total Settlement Amount?
The settlement amount will be disclosed in the preliminary approval papers. It is not yet public.
How Do I Qualify For a Payout?
You may qualify if you used Amazon's return process during the class period, received an advanced refund at
drop-off or via carrier scan, and were later re-charged for the same item. There are two Amazon class action
settlement classes:
Class 1 (Received at Fulfillment Center Class): All Amazon consumers who returned merchandise in
the United States and were denied refunds by Amazon on the basis of non-receipt of the return when
Amazon's records show the return was actually received by Amazon at its designated fulfillment center.
Class 2 (Received by Designated Carrier Class): All Amazon consumers who attempted to obtain a
refund for merchandise in the United States and were denied refunds by Amazon on the basis of
non-receipt when the return was provided to an Amazon-designated carrier in accordance with Amazon's
instructions.
How Much Can I Get Paid?
Payments will likely depend on the amount you were re-charged and the number of valid claims. Exact payout
terms will appear in the settlement agreement and notice. If there is a capped fund and claims exceed it,
payments are usually reduced pro rata.
How Do I File a Claim?
After the court grants the Amazon Returns class action settlement approval, an official website and claim
form will go live. We will link the claim portal here when available. For now, you can follow updates on
this page. The page will be updated as progress is made in the case.
When Will Settlement Payments Go Out?
If the Court approves the settlement in late 2025, or in 2026, payments could begin later that year or as late as early 2027 after
the claims review process concludes.
What is the Claim Form Deadline?
The Amazon Returns class action claim deadline will be set in the preliminary approval order and class
notice. It is not yet available.
What are the Important Dates?
• Case stayed and deadlines vacated: October 21, 2025
• Settlement in principle with binding term sheet: October 2025
• Deadline to file preliminary approval motion: December 5, 2025
Additional dates will appear in the preliminary approval order and official notice.
When is the class action settlement payment date?
Payments are typically sent a few months after final approval, subject to any appeals. A projected payment
date will be posted after preliminary approval.
Is Proof Required to File a Claim?
Many class members may be verified through Amazon's transaction and return records. If your eligibility is
not confirmed automatically, you may need to provide documentation, such as an order confirmation or
statement showing a re-charge.
What is the Amazon Returns Settlement About?
The class action alleges that Amazon's advanced refund process led to improper re-charges when items were
already returned. Claims include breach of contract, violation of the Washington Consumer Protection Act,
unjust enrichment, and related theories. Amazon denies wrongdoing. The parties reached a settlement in
principle and are preparing a motion for preliminary approval.
What Was Amazon Accused Of?
Plaintiffs claim that Amazon unfairly re-charged customers after they had already returned their items under
its “Advanced Refund” program. Under this system, Amazon issues a refund immediately when you drop off a
return. But if the package never reaches Amazon’s facility—sometimes due to carrier errors or internal
processing issues—the company may automatically bill the customer again, even when the item was successfully
returned.
How Did Customers Lose Money?
Consumers say they followed Amazon’s return instructions and obtained advanced refunds, but weeks later,
their credit cards or bank accounts were charged again. Some customers spent hours proving they had dropped
off their packages at Amazon hubs or third-party carriers but were still denied refunds.
How Many People Are Affected?
Hundreds of thousands, or potentially millions of U.S. consumers may qualify. Anyone who used Amazon’s
“Advanced Refund” or similar expedited return process between 2020 and 2024 and was later re-charged could
be included.
