Editorial Policy & AI Disclosure

Last Updated: May 10, 2026

This page describes how OpenClassActions.com ("OCA") creates, sources, labels, and corrects the content we publish. Our goal is straightforward: tell consumers what they need to know about class action settlements, mass torts, data breaches, and consumer-rights matters — accurately, promptly, and without misleading them about what is editorial reporting and what is paid placement.

Our Role

What OpenClassActions.com is — and is not. OpenClassActions.com (“OCA”) is an informational publishing platform and a marketing / referral platform that reports on class action lawsuits, settlements, mass torts, data breaches, consumer rebates, recalls, and related consumer-rights matters. We are not a law firm, settlement administrator, claims administrator, court, government agency, or insurance company. We do not represent claimants, prosecute or defend lawsuits, process or pay claims, determine eligibility, or issue or deny settlement payments. Nothing on the Site or the Service constitutes legal, medical, financial, or tax advice. No attorney-client, fiduciary, or confidential relationship is created by visiting this Site, reading any content, submitting any form, sending us a message, or otherwise communicating with us.

Editorial vs. Sponsored Content

We publish two clearly distinct categories of content:

1. Editorial content. Independent reporting and commentary by OCA staff, contributors, syndication partners, or other third-party sources. Editorial coverage is selected based on news value to consumers — we cover settlements, recalls, breach notices, and case milestones because they matter to readers, not because anyone paid us to. Editorial content is not influenced by advertising relationships.

2. Sponsored content and lead-generation placements. Paid placements include sponsored articles, sponsored investigations, lead-generation intake forms operated for or with a partner law firm or claims administrator, sponsored newsletter slots, and similar paid arrangements. Sponsored content is clearly labeled as such — with words such as "Sponsored," "Sponsored Investigation," "Advertisement," "Paid Partnership," "Attorney Advertising," or equivalent — near the headline, around the form, or in the section heading. If you are not sure whether a piece is editorial or sponsored, look for these labels or contact us at editorial@openclassactions.com.

Affiliate / display advertising (banner ads, AdSense, and similar third-party-served advertising) is also clearly distinguishable as advertising under standard ad-network conventions.

For the full advertising and compensation disclosure, see our Advertising Disclosure.

Sourcing Standards

For settlement and case reporting, we prioritize primary sources in this order:

• The official settlement website operated by the court-appointed administrator;
• Court filings on the official docket (PACER, state-court e-filing portals, Justia, UniCourt);
• Government-agency notices and press releases (FTC, CFPB, EEOC, state attorneys general, HHS OCR, SEC, NHTSA, etc.);
• Reputable primary-news reporting (Reuters, Law360, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, regional press of record).

We do not source factual claims from competitor aggregator sites. When we cite a specific court order, settlement notice, or government press release, we link to it directly so readers can verify the original.

Authorship and Contributor Attribution

OCA may publish content from staff writers, named contributors, syndication partners, or third-party sources. Contributor bios are linked from each article. OCA exercises editorial review over published content but does not warrant the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of every published item, and views expressed by individual contributors do not necessarily reflect OCA's institutional position.

AI / Automation Disclosure

Certain content on the Site may be drafted, summarized, translated, or assisted by automated systems or artificial-intelligence tools and subsequently reviewed or edited by human contributors. Examples include drafting first passes of routine settlement summaries, generating SEO meta descriptions, and translating government notices.

We apply human editorial review intended to catch factual errors, hallucinations, and outdated information, but automated systems can produce inaccuracies that survive review. Always verify time-sensitive, financial, legal, or medical information against the original primary source — the official settlement website, court docket, government agency notice, or peer-reviewed publication — before relying on it.

We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or generate testimonials. We do not pass off AI-generated material as the work of a specific named human author who did not in fact author or review it.

Corrections

If you spot a factual error in our content, please email editorial@openclassactions.com with the page URL and a brief description (with a citation to the correct information if possible). When we correct a material error, we will note the correction at the top or bottom of the affected article along with the date.

Court-Filing and Settlement-Notice Embeds

We may embed PDF copies of official notices, complaints, settlement agreements, and court orders obtained from the official settlement administrator, the court docket, or other public-record sources. These documents are reproduced for informational purposes; for the most up-to-date version, consult the official source.

Independence Statement

Editorial coverage decisions — what to write about, how to write about it, what conclusions to draw — are made independently of advertising and sponsorship relationships. Sponsored placements are clearly labeled. We do not allow advertisers to review or approve editorial coverage of the same subject matter as a condition of advertising.

Conflicts of Interest

Where an OCA staff member or contributor has a personal interest in a matter being covered (for example, a contributor who is a class member of a settlement we cover), that conflict is disclosed in the article or the contributor recuses from the coverage.
