Las Vegas Grand Prix $3M Ticket Settlement: Automatic Payments for 2023 F1 Fans

Published July 17, 2026

Liberty Media and the Las Vegas Grand Prix agreed to a $3 million settlement for fans whose opening night at the 2023 F1 race was cut short when a loose water-valve cover ended practice and Thursday ticket holders were sent home. If you scanned in on November 16, 2023, most payments arrive automatically by email — only transferred-ticket holders need to file a claim, by August 27, 2026.

Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023 ticket class action settlement — $3 million fund for fans affected by the cancelled first practice session
The settlement covers Thursday-Only and Three-Day ticket holders who attended day one of the inaugural 2023 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, when the first practice session was cancelled after about nine minutes.

What Is the Las Vegas Grand Prix Ticket Settlement About?

Liberty Media Corporation — which operates Formula 1 and promoted the race as the Formula One Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix — and Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc. have agreed to a $3,047,986 class action settlement with fans who attended the first day of the inaugural 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The case is Diep et al. v. Liberty Media Corporation et al., Case No. 2:23-cv-02124, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.

On the night of November 16, 2023, the weekend's first practice session was stopped roughly nine minutes in after a loose water-valve cover on the Las Vegas Strip circuit damaged Carlos Sainz's Ferrari. The session was cancelled, and Thursday ticket holders were required to leave the venue before a delayed second practice eventually ran to empty grandstands at about 2:30 a.m. The lawsuit, filed within days of the race, claimed ticket holders paid for track time they never got to see. In February 2025, the court dismissed most of the claims but allowed a breach-of-contract theory to proceed, and claims against the track contractor were dismissed. The defendants settled without admitting any wrongdoing; the settlement received preliminary approval in March 2026.

Who Qualifies?

The settlement class covers individuals and entities who meet both of these conditions:

• You purchased a Thursday-Only Ticket or a Three-Day Ticket directly from the Las Vegas Grand Prix, or you possessed a transferred Thursday-Only or Three-Day Ticket that was originally purchased from the Las Vegas Grand Prix; and
• You attended Day One of the race weekend by scanning that ticket for entry on November 16, 2023, before 11:59:59 p.m.

Roughly 35,000 fans held Thursday tickets to the inaugural race. If you never scanned in on November 16, 2023, or bought a Friday or Saturday-only ticket, you are not part of this settlement class.

How Much Can You Get?

The defendants established a non-reversionary settlement fund of $3,047,986. After the costs of notice and administration, court-approved attorneys' fees and litigation expenses, and service awards for the class representatives are deducted, the remainder is distributed to class members as cash awards.

Payments are pro rata and vary by ticket type — Thursday-Only versus Three-Day — reflecting the average ticket price and the portion of the ticket's value attributed to the cancelled and delayed practice sessions. Because the amount depends on how many class members are eligible, there is no fixed per-person figure. Since the fund is non-reversionary, no money goes back to the defendants.

Do You Need to File a Claim?

Most class members do not need to do anything. If you bought your ticket directly from the Las Vegas Grand Prix, or on Ticketmaster's primary or secondary market, the settlement administrator will send your cash award automatically by email to your last known email address after the settlement receives final approval and any appeals are resolved.

If you received a covered Thursday-Only or Three-Day ticket through a transfer outside those channels, you must submit a claim form by August 27, 2026, along with documentation supporting your claim for a cash award. Claims can be filed through the official settlement website, LVGP2023TicketSettlement.com.

Key Deadlines

• June 28, 2026: Deadline to exclude yourself or object — this date has passed

• November 4, 2026: Final Approval Hearing at 9:00 AM PT before Judge Gloria M. Navarro, U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, Las Vegas

If the court grants final approval, cash awards are distributed after the settlement becomes effective and any appeals are resolved. Keep the email address associated with your ticket purchase current — automatic payments are delivered by email.
