What Is the StubHub Class Action Settlement About?

StubHub Holdings, Inc. has agreed to a $10 million StubHub class action settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to resolve allegations that the ticket resale platform misrepresented the price of live-event tickets and charged hidden fees in violation of the FTC Act and the FTC's new Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees ("Junk Fees Rule"). The case, FTC v. StubHub Holdings, Inc., Case No. 1:26-cv-02924, was filed April 9, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The FTC alleged that StubHub displayed ticket prices without clearly and conspicuously disclosing the total price consumers would actually pay, then added mandatory fulfillment and service fees later in the checkout flow -- the practice commonly known as "drip pricing." The Junk Fees Rule (16 CFR Part 464), which took effect in 2025, requires businesses selling live-event tickets and short-term lodging to display the total price -- including all mandatory fees -- upfront and more prominently than any other pricing information.

StubHub neither admits nor denies the allegations but agreed to pay $10 million into a Consumer Fund to provide automatic StubHub refunds to eligible buyers. StubHub is also permanently enjoined from violating the FTC Act and the Junk Fees Rule going forward. This StubHub settlement is one of the first major enforcement actions under the new FTC junk fees rule and signals the FTC's commitment to cracking down on hidden ticket fees and drip pricing across the live-events industry.

Who Qualifies for the StubHub Class Action Settlement?

You qualify for the StubHub class action settlement and will receive an automatic StubHub refund if you meet both of the following:

• You purchased one or more tickets from StubHub for a live event in the United States between May 12, 2025 and May 14, 2025
• You have not already received a refund or chargeback for that StubHub purchase

The StubHub settlement eligibility window is only three days long. The FTC StubHub settlement covers buyers during this specific 72-hour period, when the alleged hidden fee practices were the focus of the FTC's enforcement action. If you bought StubHub tickets outside of these dates, you are not part of this StubHub class action settlement.

How Do I Know If I Qualify for a StubHub Refund? (30-Second Self-Test)

The fastest way to find out if you qualify for the StubHub refund is to check your email and bank/credit card statements for any StubHub purchases between May 12, 2025 and May 14, 2025. Specifically:

• Search your email inbox for "StubHub" between May 12-14, 2025 -- look for an order confirmation
• Check your credit card or debit card statement for any "STUBHUB" charges in mid-May 2025
• Log into your StubHub account and check your order history for that week
• Confirm you have not already received a refund or filed a chargeback on that purchase

If you find a StubHub purchase from those three days that was not refunded, you qualify for an automatic StubHub refund. You do not need to take any action -- StubHub will email you about your StubHub settlement refund within 14 days of the court entering the FTC order.

How Much Will I Get from the StubHub Class Action Settlement?

Your StubHub refund equals the total amount of fulfillment and service fees you paid on tickets bought between May 12, 2025 and May 14, 2025. The total StubHub class action settlement fund is $10,000,000.

StubHub fulfillment and service fees are the mandatory charges added on top of the listed ticket price during checkout. These are the fees the FTC alleged were hidden from buyers until late in the purchase flow. Your StubHub settlement refund covers exactly these fees -- not the face value of the ticket itself, and not any optional add-ons like ticket insurance.

The FTC order creates two refund tiers. Eligible StubHub buyers whose initial pricing display did not disclose the total price will receive a StubHub refund equal to the full amount of fulfillment and service fees they paid. All other eligible buyers will also receive StubHub refunds equal to their fulfillment and service fees, paid from the same Consumer Fund. If the total amount owed to all eligible StubHub class action settlement claimants exceeds the $10 million Consumer Fund, refunds will be distributed on a pro rata basis -- meaning each eligible buyer receives a proportional share.

Any funds remaining in the Consumer Fund 190 days after the StubHub settlement order takes effect must be paid to the FTC, which can use the money for additional consumer relief.

Do I Need to File a StubHub Settlement Claim Form?

No. The FTC order is explicit: StubHub must issue StubHub class action settlement refunds without requiring consumers to file any claim seeking compensation or take any other action. This is one of the most consumer-friendly aspects of the StubHub settlement. There is no StubHub claim form, no deadline you have to meet, and no documentation you have to submit. If you qualify, StubHub will refund you automatically as part of the FTC StubHub settlement program.

How Will StubHub Send My Refund?

The FTC order specifies the exact StubHub refund methods StubHub must use, in the following order:

First, refund to the original form of payment -- the credit card, debit card, or other method you used to buy the StubHub tickets
Second, if the original payment fails, refund via PayPal using the email address StubHub has on file for you

Within 14 days of the StubHub settlement order being entered, StubHub must email all eligible buyers a notification confirming the StubHub refund is on the way. The email will come from StubHub directly and will reference the FTC StubHub settlement and your refund amount. If you no longer have access to the email address you used at the time of purchase, StubHub is required to try other email addresses on file before failing the StubHub refund payment.

When Will I Get My StubHub Refund?

The FTC order sets strict deadlines for the StubHub refund process:

Within 14 days of the order being entered, StubHub must deposit the full $10 million into the Consumer Fund and send email notifications to eligible buyers
Within 90 days of the order being entered, StubHub must issue all refund payments to eligible consumers
Within 6 months of the order being entered, the entire settlement program must be completed
Within 190 days, any remaining funds must be paid to the FTC

StubHub must also pay all costs of administering the settlement program out of its own pocket -- not from the $10 million Consumer Fund. This means the entire $10 million is available for consumer refunds, with administration expenses borne entirely by StubHub.

What If My StubHub Refund Email Looks Like a Scam?

Because the FTC order requires StubHub to email eligible buyers about their refunds, scammers may try to impersonate StubHub or the FTC with fake refund emails designed to steal personal information or payment credentials. Watch out for:

• Emails asking you to "click here" to claim your refund or enter personal information
• Requests for your bank account number, Social Security number, or password
• Demands for payment of any kind to "process" your refund
• Suspicious sender addresses that do not end in stubhub.com

The legitimate StubHub refund process is fully automatic. You should not have to provide any information beyond what StubHub already has on file. If you receive a suspicious email, log into your StubHub account directly through stubhub.com (do not click email links) to verify any refund activity.
