What Is the MCNA Insurance Data Breach About?

MCNA Insurance Company (“MCNA”) provides dental benefits and services to recipients of Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Programs. On May 26, 2023, MCNA sent out notices of a data breach to their system which occurred in March. During the breach, hackers were able to infiltrate the internal MCNA network and access confidential information belonging to 8.9 million patients. If you received a letter from MCNA Insurance Company titled “Notice of Data Breach,” hackers may have some of your personally identifiable information such as:

• Name,
• Contact information,
• Social Security number,
• Driver's license numbers,
• Health insurance information,
• Medical information.

Data breaches can also result in a long-term erosion of personal data privacy, as the hacked personally identifiable information may be traded or shared amongst cyber-criminals for years to come, on the internet, the dark web, or elsewhere.. This significantly increases the risk of further identity theft, financial fraud and massive headaches for consumers and victims.
