What Changed Recently?

Vida Y Salud-Health Systems, Inc. (VSHSI), a health care provider in Zavala County, Texas, agreed to settle Murray, et al. v. Vida Y Salud-Health Systems, Inc., a class action over a data security incident. The company has said an unknown actor accessed its network on October 7 and 8, 2025, and that files were copied and potentially viewed. According to the company’s notice, the files may have included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical information, addresses, dates of birth, account numbers and claim numbers.

The settlement agreement is dated August 20, 2026, and Judge Maribel Flores signed the preliminary approval order on September 17, 2026. VSHSI denies that it did anything wrong, and the court has not decided who is right.

Who Qualifies?

The court defined the class as all individuals residing in the United States whose private information was potentially impacted in the data incident affecting VSHSI on or around October 2025, including everyone who received notice of the incident. Excluded are VSHSI and its officers, directors and related companies; anyone who opts out; the judge and the judge’s family and staff; and anyone who carried out the incident. Papers filed with the settlement describe the incident as affecting approximately 7,000 current and former patients.

How Much Can You Get?

Every class member can claim two years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete monitoring, and can also choose between two kinds of cash: A class member who claims both documented losses and lost time can receive up to $3,580. All cash benefits are subject to a $500,000 aggregate cap: if the total value of approved cash claims is higher, every payment is reduced pro rata so the total equals $500,000. Class Counsel’s requested $265,000 in fees and costs and the $2,500 service awards are paid by VSHSI separately.

What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?

The online claim form opens only with the Login ID and PIN printed on the notice mailed to class members. The $50 alternative payment needs no documentation, and the lost-time payment needs only an attestation. Out-of-pocket claims need supporting documents such as bank statements or receipts; self-prepared notes can support other proof but are not enough on their own, and expenses already reimbursed by someone else do not qualify. A printable claim form on the settlement website can be mailed instead of filing online.

What Is the Deadline?

Online claims are due by January 18, 2027. The settlement website and the long-form notice say a mailed claim must be postmarked by January 18, 2027; the printed claim form says paper claims must be received by that date. The deadline to opt out or object is January 4, 2027.

How Do You Take Action?

Claims are filed through the official Vida Y Salud data settlement website, using the Login ID and PIN from the notice, or by downloading the claim form there and mailing it. The website also explains how to request a Login ID and PIN for anyone who cannot find the notice. Only one claim form, online or paper, may be filed per person.

What Happens Next?

The court will hold the final approval hearing on February 2, 2027 at 9:00 a.m. Central Time, by Zoom. At that hearing it will decide whether to approve the settlement, Class Counsel’s fee request and the service awards. The notice says payments will be distributed only if the court grants final approval and after any appeals are resolved; it does not give a payment date.

Questions

Can I claim both the $50 payment and the lost-time payment?

No. The notice describes the $50 alternative cash payment as available instead of any other payment. A class member chooses either the $50 flat payment or the documented out-of-pocket and lost-time payments. Credit monitoring can be claimed with either choice.

Who pays the lawyers in the Vida Y Salud settlement?

Class Counsel will ask the court to approve $265,000 in attorneys’ fees and litigation costs and $2,500 service awards for each of the four class representatives. The notice says Vida Y Salud-Health Systems pays those amounts, so they are not taken out of the $500,000 cap on class member payments.

Is there a deadline discrepancy for mailed Vida Y Salud claim forms?

The long-form notice and the settlement website say a mailed claim must be postmarked by January 18, 2027, while the printed claim form says paper claims must be received by January 18, 2027. Online claims are due January 18, 2027 under both documents.

What does the CyEx Medical Shield Complete monitoring cover?

According to the notice, the two-year service monitors for healthcare insurance ID exposure, medical record number exposure and unauthorized Health Savings Account spending, includes access to a fraud resolution agent and comes with $1 million of medical identity theft insurance.
