Consumers may be part of a new class action settlement reached with Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. and
Audi, as well as some of their affiliates over allegations that certain Audi and Volkswagen vehicles
equipped with specific turbocharged engines experienced premature turbocharger failures. Audi and Volkswagen
(VW) deny wrongdoing, but agreed to a settlement that provides warranty extensions and reimbursements for
certain past repairs.
Which Vehicles are Included?
Consumers can use the official Audi and Volkswagen turbo class action lawsuit VIN Lookup Portal on
the official website to confirm eligibility.
• Audi examples include select model years of A3, Q3, TT (Gen 1/2/3 groups).
• Volkswagen examples include select model years of Golf/GTI/Golf R, Jetta/GLI, Tiguan, Atlas/Atlas
Cross
Sport, and others (Gen 1/3 groups).
Below is the list of included cars straight from the class action notice. Only certain VINs qualify, so use
the VIN Lookup to
double-check that your vehicle is included in the turbo class action settlement.
• Warranty Extension (Certain Gen 3 vehicles): Effective Sept 15, 2025, extension to 8.5
years or 85,000 miles (whichever first) from In-Service Date, covering 50% of qualifying
turbo
repair/replacement at an authorized dealer when caused by specified wastegate corrosion. If a Gen 3 vehicle
is already older than 8.5 years on Sept 15, 2025, coverage runs until Nov 14, 2025 or 85,000 miles,
whichever first. Subject to NVLW terms and exclusions (e.g., abuse, lack of maintenance).
• Reimbursement for One Prior Repair (All Settlement Class Vehicles): If, before Sept 15, 2025
and
within 8.5 years/85,000 miles from In-Service Date, you paid for a turbo repair/replacement, you may claim
50% reimbursement (or 40% if paperwork doesn't specify the covered cause), subject to
documentation and limits (non-dealer cap of $3,850 invoice; additional proof if within NVLW).
Are Both Owners and Lessees Eligible for the Turbo Settlement?
Yes. Both current and former Owners or Lessees of qualifying Audi or Volkswagen Vehicles in the U.S. and
Puerto Rico may be eligible to claim Reimbursement or Warranty Benefits, provided their VIN is included.
Can I Still Qualify If I Sold My Audi or Volkswagen Before the Settlement?
Yes. Former Owners or Lessees can still qualify for Reimbursement of one past Repair if they meet the
Eligibility Criteria and provide proper Documentation, even if they no longer own the Vehicle at the time of
the Settlement.
What Proof is Required to File a Claim?
To potentially qualify to be part of the settlement, you must submit a completed, signed claim form by
Nov 29, 2025, and include: repair invoice(s) with VIN,
repair details, cost and proof of payment; a declaration that the engine wasn't modified; proof you sought
warranty repair first if the repair occurred during NVLW and was done outside a dealer; and, if cause isn't
specified, maintenance records (or perjury declaration) showing oil-service adherence within 10% intervals.
Forms and declaration templates are available on the official site.
Who Is Included?
Anyone that purchased or leased a covered VIN number (a covered Audi or VW car) in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
may be included, except certain
excluded categories (e.g., judges, VWGoA employees, salvaged title purchases, insurers, prior releasors, and
those who timely exclude themselves).
What is the Total Settlement Amount?
There is no fixed cash fund. Instead, the settlement provides extended warranty coverage and reimbursement
for 50% (or 40% in some cases) of one prior qualifying turbocharger repair, with caps and conditions.
Which Turbo Engines are Part of the Settlement?
The settlement covers vehicles equipped with EA888 turbocharged engines for Generations 1, 2, and 3.
What are the Important Dates?
Exclude or Object by: October 15, 2025
Final Fairness Hearing: December 4, 2025
Claim Deadline: November 29, 2025
When Will I Be Paid?
If the Settlement receives final approval and any appeals are resolved, valid reimbursements will be mailed
within
150 days of the later of a complete claim or the Effective Date.
