A Facebook settlement second payment is now going out: the second round of payments in the $725 million
Facebook User Privacy Settlement is rolling out this month. The official
settlement website states that the initial distribution has been completed, that the court issued an order
approving a second distribution on May 6, 2026, and that the second distribution is expected to commence in
June 2026 and continue for approximately four weeks. With that window now open, some claimants are already
reporting the advance notice email and early second-round payments, while many others have not seen anything
yet — that is expected, because payments go out in staggered batches across the four-week window rather than
all at once. The underlying case is In re: Facebook, Inc.,
Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, Case No. 3:18-md-02843-VC, in the U.S. District Court for the
Northern District of California, before Judge Vince Chhabria.
This is not a new lawsuit and not a new chance to file. It is a follow-up payment to people who already filed
valid, approved claims in the original Facebook privacy settlement and successfully received their first
payment. If you cashed your first check or accepted your first digital payment, you may receive a second one;
if you never filed by the August 25, 2023 deadline, the second distribution does not apply to you.
Yes. The second distribution is confirmed by official sources. The Facebook User Privacy Settlement website
states the first distribution is complete and that the court approved a second distribution on May 6, 2026,
with payments commencing in June 2026 over roughly four weeks. The federal court docket for the case
in the Northern District of California confirms the matter remained active with filings into late May 2026.
As the June window has opened, claimants in class-action discussion groups have begun reporting second-round
notice emails and early payments — consistent with the official timeline.
Many readers have also forwarded an email from the “Facebook User Privacy Settlement Administrator”
stating that their initial payment was successful and that a second distribution of settlement benefits will
commence in June, with payments sent in batches over the following four weeks. That detail is consistent with
the official update. Treat any individual email with appropriate caution and verify it against the official
website (see the scam section below).
The amount of the second distribution payment has not been publicly announced. For reference, the first round
paid most approved claimants roughly $30. Individual amounts varied because payouts are calculated on a points
system tied to how long each person held a U.S. Facebook account during the qualifying period of May 24, 2007
through December 22, 2022 — longer-term account holders received more, and shorter-term users received less.
This second distribution is funded by the money left over after the first round — uncashed
checks, returned or failed electronic payments, and accrued interest — redistributed pro rata to the
claimants who successfully received their first payment. Because that recycled pool is far smaller than the
original net settlement fund, second-round payments are expected to be modest, often only a few dollars
each rather than a repeat of the full first payment. Until the administrator publishes figures, any specific
second-payment dollar amount circulating online should be treated as unconfirmed.
The administrator has not published the number of class members included in the second distribution. What is
known is that the first distribution went to the millions of U.S. Facebook users who filed valid, approved
claims before the August 25, 2023 deadline. This redistribution goes back to those same claimants — not to
new applicants — and specifically to those who cashed their first check or accepted their first digital
payment, since the money being redistributed is what was returned or left uncashed from round one. If the
administrator releases an exact count, we will update this page.
Per the official update, the second distribution commences in June 2026 and runs in batches over
approximately four weeks. That window is now open, and early-batch payments and notice emails are starting to
go out. Payments are not all sent on a single day. As with the first round, electronic
methods (such as PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or direct deposit) generally post sooner than mailed paper checks or
prepaid cards.
Recipients are expected to get an additional email notice approximately three to four days before the
additional payment is issued, so it is worth monitoring the inbox, spam, and promotions folders of the email
you used when filing. If you do not see a payment immediately in June, that does not mean you were left out —
it more likely means your payment falls into a later batch within the four-week window.
For most people, no action is required. The claims period is closed, there is no new form, and the second
distribution is issued automatically to existing approved claimants. The main thing within your control is
keeping your information current:
• If you moved, changed banks, or closed the PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle account you selected when filing,
your payment can be delayed or returned. Update your contact and payment details through the official
settlement website if that option is available for your claim.
• Watch for the advance email notice roughly three to four days before payment, and check spam and
promotions folders.
• If a digital payment fails or a check is never cashed, the funds are generally not lost — returned
payments are typically reissued, though that adds time.
The official administrator does send email notices, so a genuine message is plausible. Many readers received
a note worded like this:
Subject: Facebook User Privacy Settlement — Additional Payment Notice
Your initial payment in the In re: Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User
Profile Litigation was successful. A second distribution of settlement benefits will commence in June,
and payments will be sent in batches over the following 4 weeks. You will receive an additional email
notice approximately 3-4 days before your additional settlement payment is issued.
Sincerely,
Facebook User Privacy Settlement Administrator
The wording above lines up with the official update. Still, settlement payouts attract scammers, so verify
before you act. A legitimate notice will direct you only to the official settlement website, will not ask you
to pay any fee to “release” your money, and will not ask for your full Social Security number,
banking passwords, or login credentials. If anything in an email asks for a payment or sensitive login
details, treat it as a scam and confirm status only through the official website’s contact page.
The settlement resolved allegations that Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, allowed users’
personal data to be shared with third parties — including the conduct at the center of the Cambridge Analytica
scandal — without adequate consent. Meta denied wrongdoing and agreed to the $725 million settlement to avoid
further litigation. It is one of the largest data privacy class action settlements in U.S. history. For the

Is a second Facebook privacy settlement payment really happening?
Yes. The official Facebook User Privacy Settlement website states that the initial distribution has
been completed, that the court issued an order approving a second distribution on May 6, 2026, and that
the second distribution is expected to begin in June 2026 and continue for approximately four weeks. The
underlying case is In re: Facebook, Inc., Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, Case No.
3:18-md-02843-VC, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
How much is the second Facebook settlement payment?
The amount of the second distribution payment has not been publicly announced. The first round paid
most approved claimants roughly $30, with longer-term account holders receiving more and shorter-term
users less, because payments are calculated on a points system tied to how long each person held a U.S.
Facebook account between May 24, 2007 and December 22, 2022. A second distribution is typically a pro rata
share of the funds left over after the first round, so individual second payments are often smaller than
the first.
How many people are getting a second Facebook settlement payment?
The administrator has not published the number of class members included in the second distribution.
The first distribution went to the millions of U.S. Facebook users who filed valid, approved claims by
the August 25, 2023 deadline. A second distribution generally goes to those same approved claimants
rather than to new people.
Do I need to file a new claim to get the second payment?
No. The claims period closed on August 25, 2023 and is not reopening. There is no new claim form and no
new opportunity to file. The second distribution is being issued automatically to existing approved
claimants. If your contact or payment information has changed, update it through the official settlement
website.
When is the Facebook settlement second payment date?
Per the official settlement website, the second distribution commences in June 2026 and continues in
batches over approximately four weeks. That window is now open and early payments and notice emails are
starting to go out. Payments are not all sent on a single day. Electronic methods such as PayPal, Venmo,
Zelle, or direct deposit generally arrive before mailed paper checks or prepaid cards. Recipients are
expected to get an additional email notice about three to four days before their additional payment is
issued, so not seeing money on the first day of June does not mean you were excluded.
I got an email about a second Facebook settlement payment. Is it a scam?
The official settlement administrator does send email notices, and per the official update recipients
receive an additional notice approximately three to four days before an additional payment is issued.
However, scammers impersonate settlements. A legitimate notice will not ask you to pay a fee to release
your money, will not ask for your full Social Security number or banking passwords, and will direct you
only to the official settlement website. Verify any email against the official Facebook User Privacy
Settlement website before acting on it.
