Payouts from the $725 million Facebook privacy settlement have begun for approved claimants in the United States. The case resolved allegations that Facebook’s parent company, Meta, allowed user data to be shared with third parties without adequate consent. Meta denied wrongdoing and agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation.
More than 17 million claims were approved. Distributions started in August 2025 and will continue in batches over a ten week period. Depending on the payment option chosen when filing, funds will arrive by direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo, or prepaid debit card.
Individual payments vary based on the settlement formula, which considers how long a person maintained a Facebook account during the qualifying period. Current estimates place the median payment near $30. Some approved claimants will receive more and others less based on their claim data.
Payments are not issued all at once. Electronic payment methods may post sooner than mailed prepaid cards. The settlement administrator expects to complete distributions by mid fall 2025. If you filed and were approved, monitor the account or method you selected during the claims process.
The claims period for the Facebook privacy settlement is closed. New claims are not being accepted. Only approved claimants will receive payment during the current distribution window.
