In the Saskatchewan class, the settlement covers Canadian residents outside Québec who were prescribed and took Xarelto in Canada on or before October 27, 2025, and family members who can claim under provincial family compensation laws. A separate class and notice apply to certain residents of Québec.
To be eligible for compensation, the person who took Xarelto must have:
- had a bleeding event that led to death, caused a brain injury or other significant organ damage with long-term cognitive or physical impairment, or required at least 24 hours of hospitalization; and
- taken Xarelto within 24 hours before the bleeding event.
Not every class member will be eligible for compensation.
The fund is at least $4.5 million CAD and up to $5.25 million CAD, depending on the number of approved claims. It pays approved claims, provincial health insurer claims, administration expenses, class counsel fees and disbursements, and taxes. The claims administrator assigns points to each approved claim based on the severity of the bleeding event, and the net proceeds are shared in proportion to points. A Special Circumstances Fund of up to $500,000 CAD can add an amount in cases such as a young claimant, devastating injuries or complete loss of the ability to work. Class counsel will seek fees and disbursements of between $1,350,000 and $1,575,000 CAD, plus taxes. The administrator’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
A claim package is the completed seven-part claim form plus records: medical, clinical, hospital, pathology, laboratory, pharmacy or similar records showing the Xarelto prescription and use and the bleeding event. The notice says that in some cases a statement by the claimant or a physician may be enough to show the prescription and use. Family claimants need proof of their relationship, which varies by province. Claim packages go to MNP Ltd. by courier, email, fax or mail. Claimants who get a deficiency letter have 45 days to correct it, and packages still incomplete at the end of the claim period are denied.

A separate fund of up to $500,000 CAD covers special circumstances.
