If you bought a Kobalt battery trimmer, blower, mower, or chainsaw at Lowe's this year, check the battery for a USB-C port: 34 of them have smoked, sparked, or caught fire, and Greenworks is shipping free replacement batteries — no receipt needed.
The recall covers about 554,780 Kobalt 24V and 48V (2x24V) yard power tools — string trimmers, blowers, mowers, chainsaws, and pruning saws — sold with 24V Kobalt lithium-ion batteries that have a USB-C charging port (3.0Ah through 8.0Ah), sold at Lowe's stores and Lowes.com from January 2026 through May 2026 for about $20 to $482. Check the official CPSC recall notice for the complete model-number list.
Charging the lithium-ion battery through its USB-C port while the battery is inserted in the tool can short-circuit the battery, posing a fire hazard. Greenworks has received 34 reports of batteries smoking, sparking, or catching fire; no injuries or property damage have been reported. Stop charging via USB-C while the battery is in the tool immediately.
A free replacement battery kit: replacement batteries without the USB-C port, a charger adapter, a warning label for your tool, an updated manual, and a pre-paid shipping label to return the recalled batteries. Register on the official Greenworks recall page to receive it.
No receipt is required. You register your recalled product on the official Greenworks recall page and return the recalled batteries using the pre-paid shipping label included with your replacement kit.
The recall instructs consumers to immediately stop charging the battery through the USB-C port while it is inserted in the tool. Follow the instructions on the official CPSC recall notice and the Greenworks recall page for safe handling until your replacement kit arrives.
