Allina Health System pixel tracking class action settlement — $12.5 million fund over tracking pixels that allegedly shared patient information with third parties
Plaintiffs allege tracking pixels on Allina Health's websites disclosed personal and health-related information to third parties such as Meta and Google.

What Is the Allina Health Pixel Settlement About?

Allina Health System has agreed to a $12,500,000 class action settlement to resolve claims that it used tracking pixels on its websites and webpages, which allegedly caused certain personal and health-related information of website visitors to be disclosed to third parties. The case is captioned Ahlers, et al. v. Allina Health System, Case No. 0:24-cv-03674-SRN-ECW, pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

The lawsuit alleges that because Allina implemented pixels on its websites — the technology often used for analytics and advertising — personal and health-related information of individuals who visited those pages may have been shared with third parties in violation of class members' privacy, among other things. Allina Health System denies these allegations. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing, and the Court has not determined that Allina did anything wrong.

The Court has granted preliminary approval of the settlement and conditionally certified the settlement class for settlement purposes only. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the expense, delay, and uncertainty of continued litigation.

Who Is Allina Health System?

Allina Health System is a not-for-profit health care system based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, serving patients across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. It operates hospitals, clinics, and specialty care facilities and provides online services to patients through its websites, including a patient portal, online bill payment, and appointment scheduling. Because so many patients interacted with Allina through these online tools, the settlement class is broad and covers a roughly seven-and-a-half-year window of website use.

Who Qualifies for the Allina Health Settlement?

The settlement class is divided into two groups, both covering the period from September 16, 2018 through May 11, 2026:

Group 1: Individuals who were portal users, non-portal bill pay users, or non-portal scheduling users of Allina's websites during the class period.
Group 2: Individuals who were non-portal, non-bill-pay, and non-scheduling patients during the class period.

You received a notice because Allina's records indicate you fit one of these descriptions. The settlement class excludes Allina and its officers and directors, anyone who timely and validly opts out, and the judge and magistrate assigned to the case.

How Much Can You Get From the Allina Settlement?

Allina agreed to pay $12,500,000, split into two funds: $10,303,098 for the Group 1 Settlement Fund and $2,196,902 for the Group 2 Settlement Fund. Class Counsel's attorneys' fees and expenses, service awards, and notice and administration costs are paid 82.42% from the Group 1 fund and 17.58% from the Group 2 fund.

Whatever remains in each fund after those deductions is distributed pro rata to the Group 1 and Group 2 class members who file valid and timely claims. Because payments are pro rata, there is no fixed dollar amount per person — the more valid claims filed in a group, the smaller each individual share, and vice versa. The settlement administrator will calculate each approved payment once the claim period closes and the settlement becomes final.

Do I Need Proof to File?

Yes. To submit a claim on the settlement website, you must enter your Notice ID along with your last name. The Notice ID is printed on the notice you received from the settlement administrator and serves as verification that you are a class member. If you cannot locate your Notice ID, contact the settlement administrator through the official settlement website before the claim deadline.

How Do I File the Allina Health Settlement Claim?

You must submit a valid Claim Form to receive a payment — it is the only option that provides compensation under the settlement. You can file online at AllinaPixelSettlement.com using your Notice ID and last name, or download a Claim Form from the settlement website to print, complete, and mail in. Either way, your claim must be submitted online or postmarked no later than September 8, 2026.

To file online:

• Visit AllinaPixelSettlement.com and select "Submit a Claim"
• Enter your Notice ID and last name (omit any apostrophe in your last name)
• Review and agree to the privacy policy and complete the claim form
• Submit online or print, complete, and mail your claim form, postmarked by September 8, 2026

Key Deadlines

• August 10, 2026: Deadline to exclude yourself (opt out) from the settlement
• August 10, 2026: Deadline to object to the settlement
• September 8, 2026: Deadline to submit a claim form
• September 24, 2026: Final Approval Hearing at 9:30 AM CT (St. Paul, MN)

You are not required to attend the Final Approval Hearing. If you do nothing, you will not receive a payment, you will remain bound by the settlement, and you will give up your right to sue over the claims it resolves. If you opt out, you keep your right to sue but cannot receive a payment.
