What Changed Recently?
The Circuit Court of the Seventh Judicial Circuit in Sangamon County, Illinois authorized notice of a proposed settlement between the class and the Lester and Rosalie Anixter Center, which opened the claim process and set the November 23, 2026 final approval hearing. The case is Cardenas v. Lester and Rosalie Anixter Center, No. 2025LA000252.The lawsuit alleges that unauthorized parties accessed files containing private information during a cyberattack on the Anixter Center's computer systems, which the Anixter Center discovered on or about July 17, 2023. Notice letters went to about 6,238 people beginning on or about May 22, 2024.
The Anixter Center denies any wrongdoing, and the Court has not decided whether the claims have merit. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of further litigation.
Who Qualifies?
The class is all individuals in the United States who were sent a notice of the data breach. How Much Can You Get?
Class members choose one of three cash options, and may also enroll in identity protection:- Documented losses — up to $5,000. Reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses from the breach incurred between July 17, 2023 and October 19, 2026. Lost time may be claimed as part of this option, but it counts toward the same $5,000 limit.
- Lost time — up to $52.50. Up to three hours at $17.50 an hour for time spent dealing with the breach, supported by a short description of what was done and an attestation rather than receipts.
- Alternative Cash Payment — $50. A flat payment with no documentation required.
- Identity protection. One year of CyEx Identity Defense Complete, which includes $1 million of identity theft insurance, for class members who enroll. It is available alongside whichever cash option is chosen.
The settlement is claims-made, with no aggregate cap and no pro rata reduction, so the amounts above are what a valid claim pays. The Anixter Center separately pays attorneys' fees and expenses of up to $185,000, a $2,000 service award for the class representative, and the costs of notice and administration, subject to court approval. None of those amounts reduces class members' payments.

Filing requires the unique code printed on the notice, which is why this counts as a proof-required settlement even for the $50 option. A class member who has lost the notice should use the contact options on the official settlement website to ask the administrator for help.Beyond the code, the $50 needs nothing else. The documented-loss option can reach $5,000 but needs proof of actual losses, and any lost time claimed alongside it counts toward the same $5,000 limit. Someone with no documented expenses gains $2.50 at most by choosing lost time over the flat $50.
Can I still opt out or object?
No. The deadline to exclude yourself or object was September 18, 2026, and it has passed. Class members who did not opt out are bound by the settlement if the Court approves it, which makes filing a claim by October 19, 2026 the only remaining way to receive a benefit.
