Fashion Nova FTC Refunds — Payments Sent

This is an FTC refund program, not a class action. It stems from the agency's charge that Fashion Nova suppressed negative product reviews on its website. The claim window closed in 2023, and the FTC sent out the refunds in January 2025.

Current Status

Claims are closed and payments have been sent. The FTC opened a refund claims process in May 2023 with a filing deadline of August 15, 2023. In January 2025 the agency announced it had sent 148,351 payments totaling nearly $2.4 million to people who bought from Fashion Nova before November 21, 2019 and filed a valid claim before the deadline. Recipients could take the payment by check, which had to be cashed within 90 days, or by PayPal, which had to be accepted within 30 days. Those redemption windows have long since closed.

What Was the Case About?

In January 2022 the Federal Trade Commission announced that Fashion Nova had agreed to pay $4.2 million to resolve charges that it misrepresented the product reviews on its website. According to the FTC, the company let four- and five-star reviews post automatically while withholding hundreds of thousands of lower-rated, more critical reviews — creating the impression that the displayed ratings reflected the views of all customers who had submitted them.

The FTC alleged the practice ran from as early as late 2015 through mid-November 2019. As part of the resolution, Fashion Nova was required to stop suppressing customer reviews, with narrow exceptions for reviews that are obscene, offensive or false.

Because this is a Federal Trade Commission enforcement action and refund program rather than a private class action, there was no court-appointed settlement administrator, no opt-out right, and no class notice in the usual sense — the FTC ran the claims process itself.

Who Was Covered?

The refund program covered people who purchased products directly from FashionNova.com before November 21, 2019, whose purchase decision was influenced by the ratings and reviews on the site, who were dissatisfied with what they received, and who had not already received a refund or other payment for those purchases.

A Separate, Earlier Fashion Nova Matter

Fashion Nova also settled a different set of FTC charges in April 2021, alleging the company failed to tell customers about shipping delays and used gift cards or store credit in place of refunds for orders that never shipped. Payments in that earlier matter went out by mailed check and PayPal in March and October of 2021. Receiving a payment from that earlier program did not disqualify anyone from the review-suppression refunds described on this page — they were separate proceedings with separate eligibility.

What Proof Was Required?

No receipts or documentation were required. Claimants confirmed their eligibility on the FTC's claim form. Because the FTC ran the process against its own records of Fashion Nova purchasers and no administrator-issued identifier gated the form, this page is marked Proof Required: No.

What Happens Next?

Nothing further is expected. The FTC completed its distribution in January 2025, and the check and PayPal redemption windows have passed. The agency maintains a case page with the current status of the refund program.
