Claim Form Required: No - FTC sends refunds automatically

What is the Pyrex FTC Settlement?

The Federal Trade Commission is sending PayPal payments to consumers who bought Pyrex glass measuring cups on Amazon that were falsely advertised as "Made in USA" when they were actually manufactured in China. No claim form is required. The FTC identifies eligible consumers automatically from Amazon purchase records and sends refunds directly.

This is not a traditional class action settlement. It is an FTC enforcement action against Instant Brands LLC, the company that makes Pyrex. The FTC ordered Instant Brands to pay a $129,416 judgment for violating the Federal Trade Commission Act by making false "Made in USA" claims. The FTC is now distributing that money as refunds to consumers who bought the affected products.

The FTC first sent checks to 10,259 consumers in October 2024, resulting in more than $43,700 in refunds. Now in March 2026, the FTC is sending PayPal payments to people who did not cash their original checks. If you receive a PayPal payment, accept it within 30 days.

What is Pyrex?

Pyrex is one of the most recognizable kitchen brands in America. The brand dates back to 1915, when it was created by Corning Glass Works. Pyrex glassware has been a staple in American kitchens for over 100 years and can be found in more than 80% of American homes according to the company's own marketing.

Pyrex is now owned by Instant Brands LLC, a Delaware company headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois. Instant Brands also owns other well-known kitchen and houseware brands including Corelle, Corningware, Instant Pot, Snapware, Chicago Cutlery, and Visions. The company's Pyrex product line includes glass baking dishes, storage containers, and the measuring cups at the center of this FTC action.

Pyrex has long marketed its products as American-made, using slogans such as "Proudly Made in USA," "American as Apple Pie," and calling itself "1 of 10 products surprisingly still made in America." The company's Facebook page described how Pyrex "value[s] our made in the USA heritage." This American-made identity was a major selling point for the brand.

What Did Pyrex Do Wrong?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, consumer interest in home baking surged dramatically. Instant Brands experienced a spike in demand for Pyrex glass measuring cups that it could not meet with its American manufacturing capacity.

Between May 2021 and March 2022, the company shifted production of certain Pyrex measuring cup sets from the United States to China. Specifically, two measuring cup sets sold on Amazon (a 3-piece set and a 4-piece set) were manufactured in China during this period. The Chinese-made cups were even marked "Made in China" in red text on the products themselves.

However, Instant Brands continued to advertise these exact products on Amazon as "Made in USA." The company also continued running general marketing campaigns implying all Pyrex products were American-made. Despite receiving dozens of customer complaints, the company kept selling Chinese-made cups under the "Made in USA" label. In total, more than 110,000 units of Chinese-made measuring cup sets were sold to American consumers as being "Made in USA."

The FTC charged Instant Brands with violating the Federal Trade Commission Act by making false and misleading claims about the origin of its products. The Commission voted 4-0 to issue the complaint and accept the consent agreement. Instant Brands neither admitted nor denied the allegations but agreed to the order.

What is the FTC's "Made in USA" Rule?

The Federal Trade Commission enforces rules about how companies can use "Made in USA" and similar claims. These rules exist to protect consumers who want to buy American-made products and are willing to pay more for them.

Under FTC guidelines, a company can only make an unqualified "Made in USA" claim (meaning no disclaimers or qualifications) if the product's final assembly or processing takes place in the United States, all significant processing occurs in the United States, and all or virtually all ingredients or components are made and sourced in the United States. If any significant part of a product is foreign-made, the company must either stop using the "Made in USA" claim or add a clear disclosure explaining exactly how much of the product is foreign.

The FTC finalized its Made in USA Labeling Rule in August 2021, which went into effect while the Pyrex violations were still happening. Companies that violate this rule can face civil penalties of up to $50,120 per violation.

The Pyrex case is a clear example of why these rules matter. Consumers who specifically searched for American-made measuring cups on Amazon were deceived into buying Chinese-made products. The cups themselves said "Made in China" right on them, but shoppers could not see that until after the product arrived.

Who Qualifies for the Pyrex Refund?

You may qualify for a refund if you purchased Pyrex glass measuring cup sets (the 3-piece or 4-piece sets) on Amazon between approximately May 2021 and March 2022 that were listed as "Made in USA" but were actually manufactured in China.

The FTC does not require you to file a claim form. The agency identifies eligible consumers from Amazon purchase records provided by Instant Brands. If you are eligible, the FTC will contact you directly with a refund.

How Much Is the Refund?

The FTC collected a $129,416 judgment from Instant Brands. More than $88,000 in total refunds have been sent to 10,259 consumers. The first round of checks in October 2024 resulted in over $43,700 distributed. The current March 2026 round sends PayPal payments to those who did not cash their checks.

The exact refund amount per person is calculated on a pro rata basis from the total judgment amount after administrative costs.

How Do I Get My Refund?

No action is required on your part. The FTC sends refunds automatically based on purchase records. There is no claim form to file.

If you already received and cashed a check from the FTC in October 2024, you have already received your refund. If you received a check but did not cash it, the FTC is now sending a PayPal payment to your email address. Accept the PayPal payment within 30 days.

If you believe you are eligible but have not received a refund, you can contact the refund administrator, Simpluris, for questions.

How Will I Receive My Payment?

The FTC uses multiple payment methods for refunds. For the Pyrex case, the first round was sent by check in October 2024. The current round in March 2026 is being sent via PayPal.

The FTC will never ask you to pay money or provide sensitive information like your Social Security number or bank account details to receive a refund. If someone contacts you claiming to be from the FTC and asks for payment, it is a scam. You can verify legitimate FTC refund programs at ftc.gov/refunds.

What Happened to Instant Brands After the Settlement?

In addition to the $129,416 monetary judgment, the FTC's order against Instant Brands includes permanent restrictions on how the company can market its products. Instant Brands is now prohibited from making unqualified "Made in USA" claims for any product unless it can demonstrate that final assembly, all significant processing, and all or virtually all components are of U.S. origin. The order also requires the company to include clear disclosures about foreign content in any qualified Made in USA claims. The order is effective for 20 years.
