What Is This Settlement About?

A proposed class action settlement has been reached with South Texas Oncology and Hematology, PLLC, a San Antonio-based cancer care provider, over a data security incident that occurred on or about February 15, 2024. The breach reportedly involved unauthorized access to the personal information of about 176,303 people, including the protected health information of roughly 175,195 patients — data such as names, contact information, dates of birth, health information, and Social Security numbers.

The first lawsuit was filed by a patient in June 2024, and several similar cases were later consolidated into a single action. South Texas Oncology and Hematology denies any wrongdoing, and the court has not decided who is right. Both sides agreed to a $1,075,000 settlement fund to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation. The court granted preliminary approval on March 25, 2026. If your information may have been involved in the incident, you can file a claim for cash benefits and medical data monitoring before the July 6, 2026 deadline.

Who Qualifies?

Per the official notice, the settlement class consists of all living individuals whose private information (such as name, Social Security number, or private health information) may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized party as a result of the data incident that occurred on or about February 15, 2024 — roughly 176,000 people, most of whom received a data breach notification letter.

The simplest way to check your eligibility is to confirm whether you received a notification letter, or to review the official settlement website at southtexasoncologydatasettlement.com.

How Much Can You Get?

Eligible class members choose one of two cash options and may also add medical data monitoring:

• Documented Losses: reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses fairly traceable to the data breach — for example, fraud losses, bank or card fees, credit-monitoring or freeze costs, and related expenses. You must submit reasonable supporting documentation such as receipts, statements, or invoices.
• Pro Rata Cash Payment: instead of a documented-loss claim, a pro rata cash payment estimated at about $100 per claimant, with no receipts required. The actual amount may be higher or lower depending on how many valid claims are filed against the fund.
• Medical Data Monitoring: in addition to either cash option, class members may also claim two years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete at no cost. It includes one-bureau credit monitoring, healthcare insurance plan ID and Medicare beneficiary ID monitoring, medical record number monitoring, dark web and high-risk transaction monitoring, $1,000,000 of fraud and identity-theft insurance with no deductible, security-freeze assistance, and victim assistance.

You may choose only one cash path. Because all benefits are paid from the $1,075,000 settlement fund — along with court-approved attorneys' fees of up to $358,333.33, costs, and service awards of $2,500 to each class representative — both cash options are subject to a pro rata adjustment up or down based on the number of valid claims received.

How to File a Claim

The fastest way to file is online through the official settlement website. The online claim portal requires the Class Member ID printed in your settlement notice to log in and file, along with documentation for any loss claim. Filing online also lets you elect an electronic payment instead of a check.

If you did not receive your Class Member ID, you can instead download a paper claim form from the settlement website, complete it, and mail it with any supporting documentation to the settlement administrator (Kroll Settlement Administration). For address updates or other help, use the contact page on the official settlement website. Submit your claim at southtexasoncologydatasettlement.com before the deadline.

Important Deadline

The deadline to submit a claim is July 6, 2026 (online or postmarked). The deadline to opt out of, or object to, the settlement was June 22, 2026. The final approval hearing is scheduled for July 21, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. CT in the 438th Judicial District Court of Bexar County, Texas, though the date and time are subject to change. Check the official settlement website for current details.

Beware of Scams

Legitimate settlement administrators do not ask you to pay a fee to file a claim or to receive a payment. File only through the official settlement website and never share more information than the claim form requires.
