Did you buy Traeger wood
pellets in California or Utah on or after October 1, 2015? You may be entitled to a $3 in-store
coupon under a $1.5 million class action settlement with Traeger Pellet Grills, LLC. There is no claim
form to fill out — the coupons are distributed in-store at participating retailers in California and
Utah through July 30, 2026.
The lawsuit alleged that Traeger misrepresented the wood species composition of certain bags of its wood
pellets, including the claim that the pellets were "100% hardwood" when they allegedly were not. The
complaint argued the alleged misrepresentations misled consumers about the quality and composition of the
pellets and the resulting flavor and performance on a Traeger grill, and that consumers paid a premium based
on those representations.
Traeger Pellet Grills, LLC denies the allegations and is settling without admitting liability. The plaintiffs
relied on the following consumer protection statutes:
• Utah Consumer Sales Practices Act (UCSPA)
• California Unfair Competition Law (UCL)
• California False Advertising Law (FAL)
• California Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA)
That question is the heart of the class action. Plaintiffs alleged that, despite "100% hardwood" labeling
on certain bags of Traeger wood pellets, the bags contained other wood species — in some cases,
softwoods or fillers different from the species named on the front of the bag (mesquite, hickory, apple,
cherry, oak, alder, and so on). The lawsuit cited independent testing said to support those claims.
Traeger Pellet Grills, LLC denies that its pellets were mislabeled and has not admitted any wrongdoing.
The $1.5 million class action settlement resolves the dispute on a no-admission basis: California and Utah
buyers since October 1, 2015 can take a $3 tear-off coupon on a future bag, and the court approves the
release of the underlying claims. For factual questions about the current pellet composition or labeling,
the most accurate source is Traeger's own product packaging and the official settlement notice rather than
third-party commentary.
If you can answer yes to both questions below, you are a Settlement Class Member.
• Did you purchase Traeger wood pellets in California or Utah (either in a store or online)
on or after October 1, 2015?
• Will you be in California or Utah while supplies of the tear-off coupons last at a
participating retailer (Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Kroger, or Albertsons)?
If yes to both, no further verification is needed. There is no online claim portal — the coupon itself
is the benefit, and Traeger physically distributes it on or beside the bag at the register.
The settlement fund is $1,500,000. Rather than direct cash payments, the benefit is delivered to class
members through $3.00 tear-off coupons redeemable on a future purchase of Traeger wood pellets.
Key features of the coupon program:
• Coupon value: $3 off a future Traeger wood pellet purchase, applied at the register
• Where coupons are placed: physically attached to bags of Traeger pellets, or displayed on
store shelves where the bags are sold
• Where coupons are available: participating retailers in California and Utah only
• No claim form: the coupon is the claim — pull it from the bag/shelf and use it
• No proof of prior purchase: you do not need a receipt from a prior Traeger pellet purchase
to use a coupon
• Coupon window: through July 30, 2026 (in-store supply may run out earlier at a given retailer)
Coupons are stocked at participating locations of the four retail chains below. The coupon is a small
"tear-off" affixed to certain bags of Traeger wood pellets, or displayed on the shelf strip in the grill
and outdoor cooking aisle.
| Retailer |
Where to Look |
| Home Depot |
Grill / outdoor cooking aisle next to Traeger wood pellet bags |
| Ace Hardware |
BBQ / grill section where Traeger pellets are stocked |
| Kroger |
Charcoal / pellet display in stores that carry Traeger pellets |
| Albertsons |
BBQ / grill section in stores that carry Traeger pellets |
Not every individual location of these chains will necessarily stock Traeger pellets — the coupon
program follows the bag. If a store near you does not stock Traeger pellets, the coupons will not be
distributed there.
The redemption mechanics are intentionally simple, since the settlement was structured to avoid the friction
of a typical online claim form:
• Take the $3 tear-off coupon from the Traeger wood pellet bag or the shelf strip at a participating
retailer in California or Utah.
• Bring a bag of Traeger wood pellets and the coupon to the register.
• The cashier applies the $3 off at checkout.
• You do not need to register on a website, fill out a claim form, or upload anything.
Because the coupon is the entire claim mechanism, OCA's standard "Submit Claim" button is intentionally
omitted from this page — there is nothing to submit online.
• Class period covered: October 1, 2015 onward
• Eligible states: California and Utah
• Settlement fund: $1,500,000
• Benefit per class member: $3 in-store tear-off coupon
• Coupon window ends: July 30, 2026
• Claim form deadline: None — no online claim
If you qualify but never visit a participating retailer, you simply do not receive the $3 benefit. Because
the settlement uses in-store coupons rather than a per-claimant cash payment, the only way to be paid is to
physically take the coupon and use it at the register.
You remain a member of the Settlement Class either way, which means you are still legally bound by the
release in the settlement and give up the right to bring your own lawsuit against Traeger Pellet Grills, LLC
over the issues the case covered. The only way to preserve the right to sue separately would have been to
opt out during the earlier opt-out window, which has passed.
Coupon settlements are simpler than cash payouts, but the scam playbook is the same. A few rules:
• Never pay a fee to "redeem" a Traeger coupon. The tear-off is free at the store. No
legitimate party will ask for a credit card to release the $3 benefit.
• Never share Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or full credit card numbers
with anyone claiming to be the Traeger settlement administrator. None of that information is needed to
use an in-store coupon.
• Be skeptical of email or text "Traeger settlement" notices that direct you to a different
domain. The official settlement website is
TraegerWoodPelletSettlement.com;
if you need to confirm a notice, start there.
• If a coupon you find online claims a value other than $3, it is not the class action
settlement coupon. The court-approved benefit is $3.
Coupon and voucher settlements like this one are common in consumer false-advertising cases where the
per-buyer overcharge is small. Joining one settlement does not affect eligibility for any unrelated
settlement.

How Do I Find Class Action Settlements?
Find all the latest class actions you can qualify for by getting notified of new lawsuits as soon as they are open to claims:
Who qualifies for the Traeger wood pellet class action settlement?
Residents of California or Utah who purchased Traeger wood pellets (in stores or online) on or after October
1, 2015 qualify as Settlement Class Members.
How much will I get from the Traeger settlement?
A $3 tear-off coupon redeemable on a future purchase of Traeger wood pellets. The coupon is the benefit;
there is no separate cash payment.
Do I have to file a claim form?
No. There is no online claim form. The $3 coupons are distributed in-store at participating retailers in
California and Utah.
Where do I pick up a Traeger coupon?
At Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Kroger, or Albertsons locations in California and Utah that carry Traeger
wood pellets. The coupon is attached to certain bags or displayed on the shelf where the bags are sold.
What is the deadline?
Coupons are available through July 30, 2026, subject to in-store supply at any individual retailer.
Do I need a receipt from a prior Traeger purchase?
No. The coupon is taken directly from the bag or shelf and applied at the register; no proof of any prior
Traeger purchase is required.
Are Traeger wood pellets really 100% hardwood?
Plaintiffs alleged that certain bags of Traeger pellets labeled "100% hardwood" or named for a specific
species (mesquite, hickory, apple, cherry, oak, alder) contained other wood species. Traeger denies the
allegations. The settlement does not decide that question on the merits; it resolves the case by providing
class members in California and Utah a $3 in-store coupon and releasing the underlying claims.
Is the Traeger settlement only for California and Utah?
Yes. The Settlement Class is limited to California and Utah residents who bought Traeger wood pellets on or
after October 1, 2015, and the in-store coupons are stocked at participating retailers within those two
states.

Filing Class Action Settlement Claims
This settlement is delivered through in-store coupons rather than an online claim form, so the standard
warning against submitting false information does not apply in the usual way. If you are not sure whether
you qualify, the official Settlement Website
(TraegerWoodPelletSettlement.com) is the authoritative source for eligibility and
distribution details. OpenClassActions.com is a consumer news site and not the settlement administrator or
a law firm. OpenClassActions is a participant in the
