What Was the Tubi Lawsuit About?
The lawsuit alleged that Tubi disclosed users’ video-viewing information and identifying data to third parties for advertising and analytics without obtaining the separate, informed consent required by the federal Video Privacy Protection Act. Plaintiffs claimed that the disclosed information could connect a person with particular videos viewed through the service. Tubi denied the allegations and denied violating the VPPA. The parties settled to avoid further litigation, and the settlement was not a court finding that Tubi committed wrongdoing.Who Was Included in the Settlement?
The settlement class generally covered people who used Tubi’s video streaming service between June 23, 2021 and August 26, 2024.
