What's the $20M Tubi Video Streaming Class Action?

A $19.99M class action lawsuit has been settled with Tubi over allegations that they violated consumer privacy laws. Specifically, the class action lawsuit alleges that Tubi, Inc. violated the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by disclosing personally identifiable information of Tubi users without complying with the statute. The lawsuit claims that Tubi shared users' personal information with third parties without first obtaining consent, which allegedly violated federal privacy laws.

Previously, AMC Networks had settled a similar class action lawsuit. Earlier in 2024, AMC Networks agreed to an $8.3 million settlement in a VPPA class action lawsuit. AMC was accused of sharing users' streaming data with third parties without explicit consent.
