What Is This Settlement About?

A proposed class action settlement has been reached in Gomian Konneh v. Urban One, Inc., Case No. 25-cv-1460-PX, pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. The case concerns a targeted cyberattack on Urban One's computer systems in March 2025 (the "Data Incident"), in which certain files containing private information were accessed. Those files may have held personal information that could be used to identify, locate, or contact an individual.

Under the settlement, Urban One will establish a $675,000 Settlement Fund. That fund first pays court-approved attorneys' fees and costs, a service award for the class representative, and the costs of administering the settlement; the remainder pays the class benefits described below. Urban One denies that it did anything wrong, and the court has not decided who is right — the parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and delay of continued litigation. Who Qualifies?

The Settlement Class is defined as all individuals residing in the United States whose private information was potentially compromised in the Data Incident discovered by Urban One in 2025, including everyone who received notice of the Data Incident. Excluded from the class are the judge in the case and the judge's family and staff, the defendant, and anyone who validly opts out of the settlement.

Urban One's records indicate which individuals are class members, and those people were sent a notice with a Unique ID and PIN. If you received a notice about the Urban One Data Incident, you are very likely a class member and eligible to file.

How Much Can You Get?

Every class member is eligible for credit monitoring plus one of two cash options. Because all benefits share the $675,000 aggregate cap, payments may be reduced pro rata if total valid claims exceed the fund.

Credit monitoring (everyone): All class members may enroll in three years of CyEx Financial Shield Total, a three-bureau credit monitoring service that includes $1 million of financial fraud insurance and monitors for identity theft, unauthorized financial transactions, and high-risk financial transactions, with access to a fraud resolution agent.

Option A — Documented Losses and/or Lost Time: You may claim reimbursement for actual, documented out-of-pocket losses tied to the Data Incident, up to $10,000. Covered expenses include losses from identity theft or fraud, fees for credit reports, credit monitoring, or freezing and unfreezing credit, the cost to replace IDs, and postage to contact banks by mail. Losses must have been incurred between March 15, 2025 and August 31, 2026, cannot have already been reimbursed by a third party, and require supporting documentation such as receipts or bank statements. You may also claim Lost Time of up to 15 hours at $25 per hour (maximum $375): the first four hours need only a brief description of how the time was spent, while the additional 11 hours require supporting records. Documented Losses and Lost Time together are capped at $10,000.

Option B — Alternative Cash Payment: Instead of Option A, you may claim a one-time pro rata cash payment of up to $500. This option requires no proof or explanation. The exact amount depends on how much money remains in the fund after other benefits and expenses are paid and how many class members choose it, so the final figure may be lower than $500.

How to File a Claim

The fastest way to file is online at the official settlement website, where you log in with the Unique ID and PIN printed at the top of the notice that was mailed or emailed to you. You can also download a printable claim form from the settlement website and submit it, with any supporting documentation, by mail or email. Online and emailed claims must be submitted by August 31, 2026; mailed claims must be postmarked by that date. If you cannot locate your Unique ID and PIN, you can request them through the contact channel on the official settlement website.

Key Deadlines

Settlement payments and credit-monitoring enrollment will be issued only if the court grants final approval and after any appeals are resolved. Hearing dates can change without further notice; check the official settlement website for updates.

Avoid Settlement Scams

Legitimate class action administrators do not ask you to pay a fee to receive your settlement payment, and they will not request your full Social Security number, bank login, or payment-card details by unsolicited text or phone call. File only through the official settlement website and ignore any message that pressures you to pay or to share sensitive information to "release" your funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the Urban One settlement?

U.S. residents whose private information was potentially compromised in the Data Incident discovered by Urban One in 2025, including everyone who received notice of it. The judge and the judge's family and staff, the defendant, and anyone who validly opts out are excluded.

How much can I receive?

Three years of CyEx Financial Shield Total credit monitoring (with $1 million of fraud insurance), plus either up to $10,000 for documented losses and lost time (Option A) or an alternative pro rata cash payment of up to $500 with no proof (Option B). All benefits share a $675,000 cap and may be reduced pro rata.

What is the claim deadline?

August 31, 2026. The deadline to opt out or object is July 31, 2026, and the final approval hearing is set for September 25, 2026.

Do I need proof to file?

To file online you must enter the Unique ID and PIN from your mailed or emailed notice, so a settlement identifier is needed to start a claim. The Option B cash payment requires no documentation of losses, while Option A documented-loss and additional lost-time claims require supporting records.

What if I do nothing?

If you do nothing you remain in the class and give up the right to sue Urban One over the claims this settlement resolves, but you will not receive any benefit or payment. To receive a benefit you must submit a valid claim by August 31, 2026.
