What's This Class Action About?

A $5,994,233.00 class action settlement has reached with BioLife, a large manufacturer of bio-production tools and services. The settled lawsuit alleged that Biolife violated the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act known as BIPA, by collecting fingerpint data from donors, without written consent requirements and without maintaining BIPA policy according to biometric information.

How Do I Qualify?

The settlement includes all individuals who scanned their finger at a BioLife plasma donation facility in Illinois between September 8, 2015 and November 15, 2021.

What Can I Get?

Settlement members divided into two groups, or subclasses:

• Subclass 1 - Those who had a finger scan performed at a BioLife plasma donation facility in Illinois between September 8, 2015 and March 5, 2020.

• Subclass 2 - this is for Settlement Class Members who scanned their finger at a BioLife plasma donation facility in Illinois between March 6,2020 and November 15, 2021, not including those individuals in Subclass 1.

Biolife implemented a biometrics contract starting on March 6, 2020, whereas the individuals in Subclass 1 did not have the opportunity to sign a biometric consent form. Those who signed the contract will receive less reimbursement from the class action payment than those who did not sign a contract.

How Do I File a Claim?

To receive a settlement payment, you must be a Settlement Class Member and complete and submit a timely and valid Claim Form. Read the instructions carefully to submit a Claim Form online, or fill it out and mail it in the postage pre-paid envelope included with your notice, no later than April 25, 2022.

To file a claim online, you will need your claim number and PIN, which you can find on the claim form you received in the mail, or in the email you received. If you do not have your claim number and PIN, please contact the Settlement Administrator through the official settlement website.
