What Is the Bestway Spa Pump Class Action Settlement About?
Did you buy a Bestway AirJet or HydroJet spa pump for an inflatable hot tub
between May 2021 and May 2024? You may be eligible for an additional cash payment
of up to $75 from a class action settlement, on top of any refund or replacement
you already received through the 2024 CPSC recall. The claim deadline is August
17, 2026.
The Bestway spa pump class action lawsuit, captioned Armstrong et al. v.
Bestway (USA), Inc., Case No. 2:24-cv-02812-DMF, is pending in the U.S.
District Court for the District of Arizona before Magistrate Judge Deborah M.
Fine. Named plaintiffs Danielle Harper, Franca Armstrong, and Mandy Islam allege
that Bestway sold defective spa pumps that could cause fires, and that the August
2024 CPSC recall remedy (either a free replacement pump or a cash refund of $100
for AirJet pumps and $189 for HydroJet pumps) was insufficient to fully
compensate consumers.
Bestway denies any wrongdoing and is settling the spa pump class action without
admitting liability. The Settlement Administrator is Simpluris. The official
Settlement Website is at
spapumpclassactionsettlement.com.
Which Bestway Spa Pump Model Numbers Are Covered?
Nine specific Bestway AirJet and HydroJet spa pump model numbers are covered by
the settlement. The model number is printed on the label on the side or back of
the spa pump, along with the word "Bestway." The pumps were sold separately or
in inflatable hot tub packages under the SaluSpa, Coleman, and Hydro-Force brand
names (the brand name is printed on the side of the spa liner).
Pump Type
Covered Model Numbers
Bestway AirJet Spa Pump
P05332, P05339, P05711, P05807, P07000, P07001
Bestway HydroJet Spa Pump
P05511, P07034, P07572
If your spa pump shows any of the nine model numbers above and you purchased it
between May 2021 and May 2024, you are a Settlement Class Member. The covered
pumps were sold online at Bestway USA, Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, QVC,
Rural King, Spreetail, and at other retailers nationwide, with combined hot tub
package prices ranging from approximately $400 to $790.
30-Second Self-Test: Do I Qualify for the Bestway Settlement?
If you can answer yes to both questions below, you are likely a Settlement Class
Member.
• Did you purchase a Bestway AirJet or HydroJet spa pump in the United
States between May 2021 and May 2024, either standalone or as part of a
SaluSpa, Coleman, or Hydro-Force inflatable hot tub?
• Does your spa pump show one of the nine covered model numbers
(P05332, P05339, P05711, P05807, P07000, P07001, P05511, P07034, or P07572)?
If yes to both, you are a class member. The notice from the Settlement
Administrator (Simpluris) with your Unique ID and PIN may have been mailed or
emailed to you based on Bestway's records. If you did not receive a notice but
qualify, you can still file a claim through the official settlement website.
Why Were the Bestway AirJet and HydroJet Spa Pumps Recalled?
In August 2024, Bestway voluntarily recalled approximately 866,000 AirJet
and HydroJet spa pumps in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission over a fire and burn hazard. The pumps could overheat and
cause fires.
According to CPSC reporting, the recall was prompted by:
• At least three fires reportedly involving the spa pumps
• One fatality in a Kansas City, Missouri house fire in January 2024
• One additional fire that resulted in significant property damage
• Seven additional incidents under investigation at the time of the
recall
The CPSC recall remedy was either a free replacement pump or a cash refund of
$100 for AirJet pumps and $189 for HydroJet pumps. The Armstrong class action
argues that this remedy was insufficient to fully compensate consumers for the
economic loss and seeks additional cash payment from Bestway. The class action
settlement is the result of that lawsuit.
What Are the Three Eligibility Pathways for the Cash Payment?
The Bestway settlement has an unusual three-pathway claim structure. Which
pathway applies to you depends on (1) whether you still have the spa pump and
(2) whether you already participated in the CPSC recall.
Pathway A: You still have the pump AND already participated in the CPSC
recall.
Simplest path. Provide your Spa Pump Recall Claim Number on the settlement claim
form. The recall claim number is your proof of class membership; no additional
documentation is needed. If you do not remember your recall claim number, you can
request it from Bestway directly.
Pathway B: You still have the pump BUT have NOT yet participated in the CPSC
recall.
You must FIRST participate in the CPSC recall at
bestwayusa.com/recall-and-safety before you can file the
settlement claim. The recall gives you either a free replacement pump or a cash
refund ($100 AirJet or $189 HydroJet). Once you have your recall claim number,
return to the settlement website and file your claim using Pathway A.
Pathway C: You no longer have the spa pump.
Whether or not you ever participated in the recall, you can still file a claim by
providing proof of purchase. Acceptable proof includes photographs of the spa
pump (if you have any) or a confirmation email showing the purchase of one of
the nine affected model numbers between May 2021 and May 2024.
What Does the Bestway Settlement Provide? Cash + Warranty Extension
The settlement provides two categories of benefits to Settlement Class Members.
Benefit 1: Cash payment up to $75 (claim required).
Settlement Class Members who file a valid claim by August 17, 2026 receive a
cash payment of up to $75 per claim. Key payment details:
• Total cash payment fund cap: $2,000,000
• Pro rata reduction: if total valid claims exceed $2 million, all
payments are reduced proportionally
• One per household AND one per IP address
• Default payment method: check by U.S. mail
• Electronic options for online filers: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or ACH
transfer
• The cash payment is in addition to any refund or replacement
pump already received through the CPSC recall
Benefit 2: One-year warranty extension (automatic, no claim).
Settlement Class Members who received a replacement pump through the CPSC recall
automatically receive a one-year extension to the Bestway Limited Warranty for
the replacement pump. No claim form is needed for the warranty extension. The
total estimated value of the warranty extensions is more than $8 million.
Attorneys' fees, service awards, and releases. Bestway will separately pay
Settlement Class Counsel's attorneys' fees and costs of up to $807,591; this is
paid by Bestway and does not reduce per-claimant payments. The three Class
Representatives may each receive a service award of $2,500. By participating in
the settlement, Settlement Class Members release their claims against Bestway
relating to the spa pumps, but personal injury claims and property damage claims
(other than damage to the pump itself) are NOT released.
How to File the Bestway Settlement Claim Online or by Mail in 2026
Two filing methods are available, both with the same August 17, 2026 deadline.
Method 1: Online (recommended). Visit the official Settlement Website at
spapumpclassactionsettlement.com. If you
received a notice, log in with your Unique ID and PIN. If you did not receive a
notice but qualify, the website also lets you file without logging in. Complete
the claim form by selecting your pathway (A, B, or C), entering your contact
information, providing your Spa Pump Recall Claim Number or proof of purchase
documentation, and selecting your preferred payment method. Online claims must
be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on August 17, 2026.
Method 2: U.S. Mail. Download the printable claim form from the
Settlement Website. Complete it with your contact information, Spa Pump Recall
Claim Number or proof of purchase, and signature. Mail the completed form to the
Settlement Administrator at the address printed on the form. Mailed claims must
be postmarked by August 17, 2026.
Before you file, gather: the model number from your pump or your purchase
confirmation, your Spa Pump Recall Claim Number (Pathway A or B), photographs of
the pump or a purchase confirmation email (Pathway C), and the electronic payment
account information for whichever PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or ACH account you want
payment sent to.

How Much Will I Actually Get and When Will I Receive Payment?
The headline payment is "up to $75," but the actual amount each class member
receives depends on how many valid claims are filed.
Math on the cap: The total cash payment fund is capped at $2 million.
With the CPSC recall covering approximately 866,000 spa pumps, even a modest
claim rate produces a lot of claims. If, for example, 30,000 valid claims are
filed, each claim could pay close to the full $75 (30,000 × $75 = $2.25M,
slightly over the cap, with minor pro rata reduction). If 100,000 valid claims
are filed, payments would be reduced proportionally to about $20 each (100,000
× $20 = $2M). The smaller the claim rate, the closer each payment to $75.
Payment timing:
• Final Approval Hearing: September 18, 2026
• Settlement becomes final: after the Court enters final approval and
any appeal period passes (typically 30 days after the Final Approval Order)
• Payment distribution: typically begins several weeks to several
months after the settlement becomes final
• Best case (no appeals): first payments could reach class members in
late 2026 or early 2027
• If appeals are filed: distribution can be delayed by 12 to 36
months
Class members who selected electronic payment options (PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or
ACH) typically receive payment faster than those who selected a paper check.
What Happens If I Do Nothing?
If you do nothing, you remain in the Settlement Class but you will not receive
the cash payment. You will, however, still receive the automatic one-year
warranty extension if you received a replacement pump in the CPSC recall.
Doing nothing also means you give up the right to sue Bestway about the issues
in this lawsuit. You will be legally bound by the Court's orders and judgments in
this class action. To preserve the right to sue Bestway separately for the spa
pump issues, you would need to formally opt out (exclude yourself) by August 17,
2026.
Important release carve-outs: the settlement release does NOT extend to claims
for personal injuries or property damage other than damage to the spa pump
itself. If you suffered a fire-related injury or other property damage from one
of the recalled pumps, those claims are not waived by this settlement, and you
should consult with your own attorney about pursuing them separately.
How to Opt Out or Object to the Settlement
Class members who do not want to be bound by the settlement have two
alternatives, both with the same August 17, 2026 deadline.
Opting out (excluding yourself). Opt-out means receiving no settlement
benefits but preserving your right to file your own lawsuit against Bestway over
the spa pump issues. Opt-out requests must be in writing, postmarked by August
17, 2026, and mailed to the Settlement Administrator at the address printed on
the Settlement Notice. The request must include your full name and current
mailing address, a clear statement that you wish to be excluded, the case name
and number, and your original personal signature. Only individual exclusion
requests are accepted; class or group exclusions are not allowed.
Objecting. Objection means staying in the class (and remaining eligible
for the cash payment) but asking the Court to reject or modify the settlement.
Written objections must be filed with the Court through the CM/ECF system and
served on Class Counsel and Defense Counsel, all postmarked by August 17, 2026.
Objections must include your name and address, the case name and number, a
sworn statement attesting to your class membership with the model purchased and
date and location of purchase, proof of purchase, the grounds for your
objection with supporting evidence or legal argument, contact information for
any attorney representing you, a list of all other class action settlement
objections you or your attorney have submitted in the previous five years, and
your original personal signature.
Watch Out for Bestway Spa Pump Settlement Scams
Product recall and class action settlement scams target consumers exactly when
they are looking for legitimate refunds. A few common-sense rules for the
Bestway settlement:
• Use the official Settlement Website only:spapumpclassactionsettlement.com.
Bookmark it. Be cautious of any email or text linking to a "Bestway spa pump
settlement" page from a different domain.
• Use the official Bestway recall website only:bestwayusa.com/recall-and-safety. Anyone directing you to
a different domain to participate in the CPSC recall is not legitimate.
• Never pay a fee. Legitimate class action settlements and product
recalls never require an activation fee, processing fee, or shipping fee. If
anyone asks for a payment to release your benefits, it is a scam.
• Never share full credit card numbers, bank routing numbers, or Social
Security Numbers with anyone claiming to handle your Bestway claim by
phone, text, or email. The Settlement Administrator does not need this
information.
• Stop using the recalled pump immediately if you still have it,
and participate in the CPSC recall to get a free replacement or refund. The
pumps pose a real fire hazard; do not continue using them while waiting for the
settlement payment.
Other Active Product Recall and Defect Class Action Settlements
Product defect class action settlements following CPSC recalls have been
increasingly common as more consumer products are recalled for safety hazards.
Class membership in one product defect case does not affect eligibility for any
other unrelated settlement.
