What Changed Recently?

Judge Elaine Lu of the Los Angeles County Superior Court granted preliminary approval on September 17, 2026 in Isayan v. Cedar Fair, L.P., et al., No. 24STCV16212, and the court-appointed administrator, Angeion Group, is emailing notices to class members. The lawsuit, filed June 28, 2024 against Cedar Fair, L.P., Cedar Fair Management, Inc. and Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, claims that the processing fee charged on online park tickets was a “junk fee” that was not adequately disclosed until checkout, in violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law. According to the preliminary approval order, the parks stopped charging the fee on July 1, 2024.

Six Flags denies all liability and wrongdoing and contends it complied with all applicable laws, and the court has not made any decision on the merits. By settling, Six Flags does not admit any violation.

Who Qualifies?

The class is all California citizens who, from June 28, 2020 through July 1, 2024, bought non-season tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm or Knott’s Soak City at knotts.com, or to California’s Great America at cagreatamerica.com, and were charged a processing fee. Anyone who entered a California ZIP code for the billing address on the online purchase counts as a California citizen. Season passes and tickets bought at the park are not covered. The court’s order puts the class at about 1,405,235 people, based on the defendants’ sales records.

How Much Can You Get?

Each class member receives $8, once per person, no matter how many tickets or orders they bought. Class members who do nothing receive an $8 credit, emailed to the address the notice was sent to, for a future purchase on sixflags.com for use at any of the company’s parks in the continental United States. The credit is single-use, transferable, combinable with other offers, has no blackout dates and expires 36 months after it is issued.

Class members who file a valid claim receive $8 in cash instead, by virtual prepaid card, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or check. A check not cashed within 180 days is voided, and the class member receives the $8 credit instead. According to the court’s order, class counsel’s figures show the average fee on a class member’s first purchase was about $8.07.

Together the cash and credits are worth about $11.2 million. There is no single cash fund: the cash paid depends on how many people claim it, and the administrator estimated that 3% to 5% of the class would. The defendants separately pay up to $1,962,329 in attorneys’ fees and expenses to class counsel, Warren Terzian LLP, up to $10,000 to the plaintiff, and up to $89,500 in administration costs, none of which reduces the $8.

What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?

No receipts or proof of purchase are needed. The online claim form, however, opens only with the Notice ID and Confirmation Code from the emailed notice, and the paper claim form says it cannot be submitted without a Notice ID. The settlement website says class members who did not receive a notice can contact the administrator with proof they were charged a qualifying processing fee during the class period. Class members who do nothing are not required to show anything to receive the credit.

What Is the Deadline?

Cash claims, requests for exclusion and objections are all due December 22, 2026, with claims accepted online or postmarked. For class members whose notice was delivered by a second email attempt, each deadline is 60 days after that email. Class members who opt out receive no payment or credit.

How Do You Take Action?

The official settlement website hosts the online claim form, the notice, the paper claim form, the settlement agreement and the preliminary approval order. Objections can be submitted to the administrator in writing or made orally at the final approval hearing.

What Happens Next?

The motions for final approval and attorneys’ fees are due February 8, 2027, and the final approval hearing is March 30, 2027 at 10:00 a.m. in Department 9 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, in person or by LACourtConnect. Cash and credits are distributed within 45 days after the judgment becomes final, and a reminder email goes out 12 months after the credits are delivered.
