What is this class action about?

You may be part of a new $1,548,495 class action settlement reached with Brigham Young University d/b/a BYU Broadcasting, known as BYUtv, over allegations that it disclosed subscribers’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) about video content viewed to Meta (formerly Facebook) via the Meta Pixel without consent. This allegedly violated the 1988 Video Privacy Protection Act (“VPPA”). BYUtv denies wrongdoing, but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation.

What is the Total Settlement Amount?

The Settlement Fund totals at least $1,548,495. The money will be used to pay valid claims, settlement administration costs, attorneys’ fees, and a service award to the Class Representative.

How Do I Qualify For a Payout?

You are included in the Settlement Class if, between November 12, 2022 and May 9, 2025, you simultaneously:

(1) had a Facebook account,
(2) had a registered BYUtv account with login credentials, and
(3) viewed one or more videos on www.byutv.org.

How Much Can I Get Paid?

Each eligible claimant will receive a pro rata share of the Net Settlement Fund, depending on the number of valid claims submitted. The final amount each Class Member receives depends on how many claims are filed.

When Will I Be Paid?

The Final Approval Hearing is set for November 20, 2025. If the Court grants approval and no appeals are filed, payments will be made within 45 days after the Settlement becomes final. Payments will be issued by check, Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo.
