A federal court has entered a $2,000 judgment against Keystone RV Company over Passport Western Edition travel trailers that were allegedly built with wood roof trusses after being advertised with galvanized steel ones. Requests for Payment are open. The deadline to submit online or to have a paper form postmarked is August 28, 2026, and the official notice does not specify a timezone, so treat the date itself as the cutoff. This case did not settle — the court certified a class in February 2026 and entered judgment against Keystone RV Company on June 23, 2026 for $2,000 per class member who currently owns a class trailer with wood roof trusses. The court approved the Judgment Plan of Distribution on June 30, 2026, which is what opened the payment-request window. According to the Judgment Notice, valid and timely requests will be paid by check on or before October 2, 2026.

What Changed Recently?

The lawsuit, captioned Guisinger v. Keystone RV Company, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. It alleges that Keystone began manufacturing Passport Brand Western Edition travel trailers with wood roof trusses after September 2016 while continuing to represent, until December 2019, that the trailers were built with "5 [inch] Crowned / Stamped Galvanized Steel Roof Trusses." On that basis the named plaintiff asserted claims under the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act, the California Unfair Competition Law, the California False Advertising Law, and common law unjust enrichment.

Keystone denies the claims and denies any wrongdoing. It also contends that some class trailers were built with metal roof trusses rather than the wood trusses alleged in the lawsuit — which is why the judgment only reaches trailers that actually have wood trusses.

The procedural sequence matters here, because it is unusual. The court ruled in February 2026 that the case should proceed as a class action. Notice went out to class members in May 2026, and anyone who did not ask to be excluded by June 22, 2026 remained in the class. On June 23, 2026, the court entered judgment in favor of those class members and against Keystone for $2,000 each, conditioned on current ownership of a class trailer with wood roof trusses. On June 30, 2026, the court approved the plan for distributing that judgment. There is no settlement fund and no final approval hearing to wait for — the money is already ordered, and the remaining step is documenting that you qualify.

Who Qualifies?

You were identified as a class member if Keystone's records show that you are a consumer who purchased a new Passport Brand Western Edition Trailer from a Keystone authorized dealership in California before December 1, 2019, with a serial number that sequentially ends after HX414101.

To actually receive the $2,000 under the judgment, two additional conditions apply. You must currently own the class trailer, and that trailer must have wood roof trusses. A class trailer built with metal roof trusses is not entitled to the payment, and its owner does not need to submit anything.

If you asked to be excluded from the class by the June 22, 2026 opt-out deadline, you are no longer in the class and the judgment does not cover you.

How Much Can You Get?

The judgment is $2,000.00 per qualifying class trailer. It is a flat court-ordered amount, not a pro rata share of a fund, so it does not shrink based on how many people file. Keystone pays it, and the Judgment Administrator issues the check.

If you own more than one class trailer, you must complete and submit a separate Request for Payment for each vehicle, and each submission requires that specific trailer's VIN.

One material limitation to be aware of: Keystone reserves the right, in good faith, to dispute the sufficiency of a submission. If it disputes your ownership based on its records, you may be asked to submit additional proof of ownership. If it disputes that your trailer has wood roof trusses, you may be required to establish wood truss construction through video or photographs of an exposed truss.

What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?

This is a proof-required payment on two separate levels.

To file online, you need the Unique ID and PIN printed on the Request for Payment form that was mailed to class members. Without those credentials you cannot log in to the online portal, which makes the mailed notice function as proof of class membership. If you never received the packet or no longer have it, the official website has a contact page you can use to request your login information, and a paper form you can download and mail instead.

You must also provide documentation showing that you currently own the class trailer. The Judgment Administrator lists four acceptable forms: your current vehicle registration, a certificate of title, DMV records, or proof of current insurance.

Separately, the submission asks for a completed IRS Form W-9 (or other appropriate tax documentation) as a condition of payment; the administrator states that failing to provide the required tax information may delay payment.

Finally, the administrator warns that false statements may result in denial of your request and may subject you to penalties. If your trailer turns out to have metal trusses, do not file.

How Do You Know If You Have Wood Trusses?

The Judgment Administrator describes a specific method: remove the screws from a vent in the bathroom of the trailer and conduct a visual inspection of the trusses. The administrator estimates the inspection takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes. That same access point is what Keystone may ask you to photograph or video if it disputes the truss material after you file.

What Is the Deadline?

The Request for Payment and supporting documentation must be submitted online, or postmarked if mailed, on or before August 28, 2026. The official notice states the date without a timezone, so do not count on a late-evening cutoff. After August 28, 2026, the administrator states you can no longer submit a Request for Payment or supporting documentation, or collect the $2,000 judgment.

How Do You Take Action?

Submit the Request for Payment through the official Judgment Administrator website, Keystone Passport Class Action.com, using the Unique ID and PIN from your mailed form. During filing you may be asked to verify your contact information, details about the trailer including the date of purchase, and to upload documentation showing current ownership. After you submit online, the administrator emails a Confirmation Code — keep it.

If you prefer to file on paper, the same website has a downloadable Request for Payment form and the mailing instructions; a mailed form must be postmarked by August 28, 2026.

What Happens Next?

The next known milestone is payment. Per the Judgment Notice, if your Request for Payment and supporting documentation are valid and timely, the Judgment Administrator will mail a $2,000 check on or before October 2, 2026 (the website's FAQ describes the same payments as going out in October 2026). Submissions that Keystone disputes may take longer while ownership or truss documentation is resolved. No further court hearing has been announced.

Questions

How do I find out whether my Passport trailer has wood or metal roof trusses?

According to the Judgment Administrator, class members can confirm the truss material by removing the screws from a vent in the bathroom and visually inspecting the trusses. The administrator estimates the inspection takes about 20 to 25 minutes. A trailer built with metal roof trusses is not entitled to the $2,000 payment, and its owner does not need to submit a Request for Payment.

I own two class trailers. Do I file once or twice?

You must complete and submit a separate Request for Payment for each vehicle, and each one requires the VIN of the specific trailer you are claiming on.

What if I sold the trailer?

The judgment runs to class members who currently own the class trailer, and the Request for Payment asks for documentation showing current ownership. If you no longer own the trailer, you cannot document current ownership and the $2,000 payment is not available to you.

Can Keystone dispute my Request for Payment?

Yes. Keystone reserves the right, in good faith, to dispute whether a class trailer has wood roof trusses. If it disputes ownership based on its records, you may be asked for additional proof of ownership. If it disputes the truss material, you may be required to establish wood truss construction with video or photographs of an exposed truss accessed through the bathroom vent.

What happens if I lost my Request for Payment form?

Filing online requires the Unique ID and PIN printed on the Request for Payment form mailed to class members. If you did not receive a Judgment Notice packet or no longer have it, use the contact page on the official Judgment Administrator website to request your login information. A paper Request for Payment form can also be downloaded from the same website.
