What's the West Virginia Lipitor Antitrust Settlement?
A $17 million settlement has been reached with Pfizer Inc. and Ranbaxy Inc. over allegations that they conspired to delay the introduction of a generic version of the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor, violating federal antitrust laws.
Pfizer and Ranbaxy were sued by West Virginia's Attorney General, who accused the pharamceutical makers of Lipitor of engaging in anticompetitive practices that delayed the entry of generic versions of Lipitor into the market, thus artificially raising the consumer prices of Lipitor.
The Lipitor class action lawsuit was filed under the West Virginia Antitrust Act and the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act. The class action settlement seeks to resolve these claims and provide compensation to affected West Virginia consumers who purchased Lipitor at inflated prices.
