What Is the New York Renaissance Faire Ticket Fee Settlement About?

Did you buy a ticket online to the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, New York and pay a service charge at checkout? You may be entitled to a cash payment from a class action settlement in Hammond v. Renaissance Entertainment Productions, Inc., pending in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Nassau.

The lawsuit claims that Renaissance Entertainment Productions, Inc. failed to properly and timely disclose the service fees charged on electronic tickets sold through the New York Renaissance Faire website, in alleged violation of New York Arts and Cultural Affairs Law (ACAL) § 25.07(4). The Defendant denies that it violated any law and the Court has not decided who is right. Instead, the parties agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and expense of continued litigation. As part of the settlement, the Defendant acknowledges that it has changed the ticket purchase flow on its website and agrees to continue complying with ACAL § 25.07(4) going forward.

Who Qualifies?

The Settlement Class is defined as all individuals in the United States who purchased an electronic ticket to the New York Renaissance Faire from August 29, 2022 to and through April 4, 2025. You are included if you paid service fees to purchase that electronic ticket through the Defendant's website during the class period.

The New York Renaissance Faire is located in Tuxedo, New York. If you bought your ticket online and a service charge was added at checkout during the class period, you fall within the class definition. Standard exclusions, such as the Defendant and certain related parties, and anyone who validly excludes themselves, are described in the Settlement Agreement.

How Much Can You Get?

If you submit a valid Claim Form, you can receive a cash payment of up to $20.00. This is a claims-made settlement: rather than a single capped fund, the Defendant has agreed to pay all approved claims to the Settlement Class, together with notice and administration expenses, Court-approved attorneys' fees and costs, and a service award to the class representative.

You choose how you want to be paid on your Claim Form — PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or a mailed check. If you elect a check, note that checks expire and become void 180 days after they are issued, so deposit yours promptly.

How Do I File a Claim?

To receive a payment you must submit a valid Claim Form online or by mail by the deadline. You have two options:

Online: File at the official settlement website using the Unique ID and PIN from the email notice you received. The Unique ID and PIN are near the top of that email. If you cannot find it, check your spam or junk folder or search your inbox for the settlement name.
By mail: Download the paper Claim Form from the settlement website, complete and sign it, and mail it to the Settlement Administrator so it is postmarked by the deadline.

If you believe you are a class member but did not receive a notice with your Unique ID and PIN, you can contact the Settlement Administrator through the official settlement website for help filing. After you submit online, you will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation code — keep it for your records.

Claim Form deadline: August 24, 2026

Your Other Options

If you do nothing, you will not receive a payment, and you will give up your right to sue the Defendant and other Released Parties over the claims resolved by this settlement. If you want to keep your right to sue the Defendant separately, you can exclude yourself (opt out) by August 24, 2026; you will receive no payment but will not be bound by the settlement. If you stay in the class but disagree with any part of the settlement, you can object by August 24, 2026, and the Court will consider your views. The Court will hold the final approval hearing on September 22, 2026 to decide whether the settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate. You do not have to attend, but you may ask to speak if you filed a timely objection and notice of intent to appear.

Class Counsel — Bursor & Fisher, P.A. — may seek attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses of no more than $633,333.33, paid separately by the Defendant and awarded by the Court, and the class representative may seek a service award of up to $5,000. The Court may award less than these amounts. You will not be charged for Class Counsel's representation.

When Will Payments Be Made?

The Court will hold the final approval hearing on September 22, 2026. If the settlement receives final approval and any appeals are resolved, valid claimants are expected to be paid about 60 days later. Payments are issued in the form you elected on your Claim Form — PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or check. The hearing date can change without further notice, so it is a good idea to check the official settlement website for updates.

Avoiding Scams

The only place to file is the official settlement website. The Court, the Defendant, and the Settlement Administrator will not call or text you demanding your Social Security number, full payment-app credentials, or a fee to "release" your money. There is never a charge to file a claim. Ignore any message asking for sensitive financial details or payment to receive your settlement award.
