A $4,250,000 class action lawsuit has been settled with PurFoods allegations that PurFoods failed to protect consumer data after a cyberattack between January 16, 2023, and February 22, 2023 compromised the personal information of customers as well as employees at PurFoods.PurFoods denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
PurFoods, LLC is a U.S.-based provider of medically tailored, home-delivered meals. It operates under the brand Mom's Meals and serves people across all 50 states
The proposed $4.25M PurFoods settlement has been reached in Douglas et al v. PurFoods, LLC, Case No. 4:23-cv-00332-RGE-SBJ, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa
In August and September 2023, PurFoods mailed notices to about 1,249,219 individuals.
PurFoods denies wrongdoing but has agreed to a class settlement that provides monetary payments and credit monitoring to eligible Settlement Class Members.
The settlement creates a non reversionary fund of $4,250,000 that will pay approved claims, settlement administration costs, any Court approved attorneys fees and expenses, and any service awards. If claims exceed available funds, individual payments may be reduced on a pro rata basis.
You are included if you are a U.S. resident who received a notice that your personal information may have been accessed, stolen, or compromised as a result of the PurFoods Data Incident.
Exclusions include PurFoods officers and directors, valid opt outs, certain court personnel, and anyone criminally responsible for initiating or aiding the incident.
How Do I Find Class Action Settlements?

Documented Loss Payment - up to $5,000 for unreimbursed losses reasonably related to the Data Incident or mitigation.
Examples include identity theft losses, professional fees, credit freeze and thaw fees, unreimbursed bank fees, long distance phone charges, postage, and local travel. Requires a valid claim, you to swear under perjury, and reasonable documentation that is not self prepared.
Cash Award - a pro rata cash payment estimated at about $75 based on remaining funds after other payments and expenses. The cash award in the PurFoods Mom's Meal's class action settlement will not exceed $5,000.
Credit Monitoring and Insurance Services - 3 years of three bureau credit monitoring and insurance services for any Settlement Class Member who submits a valid claim. As a claimant, you can elect this service whether or not you also claim a payment.

Payments are issued after the Court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved following the November 20, 2025 hearing.
