What Is the Tinder Age Discrimination Class Action Settlement About?
Did you pay for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California when you were over the
age of 29 (on or after March 2, 2015) or over the age of 28 (on or after March
2, 2016)? You may share in a $60.5 million class action settlement over
Tinder's age-based subscription pricing — with no claim form
required. You only need to elect your preferred payment method
(PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, ACH direct deposit, or a mailed check) on the official
settlement website by August 18, 2026.
The Tinder age discrimination class action lawsuit, captioned Candelore v.
Tinder, Inc., Case No. BC583162, is pending in the Superior Court of
California, County of Los Angeles, before the Hon. Laura A. Seigle. Named
plaintiff Allan Candelore alleges that Tinder charged older California
subscribers more than younger California subscribers for the same premium
features of Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold, in violation of California's Unruh
Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law.
Tinder denies any wrongdoing and asserts that its age-based pricing was
lawful, but agreed at mediation on September 10, 2025 to a $60.5 million
non-reversionary settlement to resolve the case. The Court granted preliminary
approval on January 13, 2026 and the Final Approval Hearing is scheduled for
June 4, 2026 (rescheduled from May 20, 2026). The official Settlement Website is at
tindercalclassaction.com.
"Tinder is accused of charging California users over 30 years old
$19.99 per month for Tinder Plus, while users under 30 paid only
$9.99 or $14.99 per month for the same premium features — an
alleged violation of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act."
Who Qualifies for the Tinder Age Discrimination Settlement?
You qualify as a class member if both of the following are true:
• You purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California, and
• You were over the age of 29 at the time of purchase on or after
March 2, 2015, OR you were over the age of 28 at the time of
purchase on or after March 2, 2016.
The class includes approximately 268,000 California Tinder subscribers.
If you received a direct notice from the Settlement Administrator by email,
text, or postcard, Tinder's records indicate you are a class member. The
settlement covers California purchases only — purchases made by
residents of other states are not eligible under this settlement.
What Was the Alleged Age-Based Pricing? The Pricing Comparison
The lawsuit alleged that Tinder marketed Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold to
California users with the same premium features for every customer, but
charged different monthly prices solely based on the customer's age.

Alleged Monthly Price for Tinder Plus

The Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 51) prohibits arbitrary
age-based discrimination in business establishments. The Unfair Competition
Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200) prohibits unlawful, unfair, or
fraudulent business practices and authorizes restitution. The complaint
argues that charging older subscribers approximately twice the monthly rate
for the same features violated both statutes. Tinder denies the allegations
and asserts its pricing was permissible.
30-Second Self-Test: Do I Qualify for the Tinder Settlement?
Answer yes to all three questions below and you are likely a class member.
• Did you purchase Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California at any
time on or after March 2, 2015?
• Were you at least 30 years old at the time of any of those
purchases on or after March 2, 2015 (or at least 29 years old at the
time of any purchases on or after March 2, 2016)?
• Did Tinder charge you the higher monthly subscription price
associated with the older age tier?
If yes to all three, you are likely a class member. Class members typically
received a direct notice from the Settlement Administrator based on Tinder's
records. If you believe you qualify but did not receive a notice, you can
submit a Verification Form on the official settlement website by August 18,
2026.
How Much Money Will I Get from the $60.5 Million Tinder Settlement?
The total settlement fund is $60,500,000, non-reversionary (Tinder does
not get back any unclaimed money; everything net of fees and costs goes to
class members). Before distribution, the Court may approve the following
deductions:
• Attorneys' fees: up to one third of the gross fund, approximately
$20.6 million plus accrued interest
• Litigation costs and expenses: up to $300,000
• Notice and administration costs: up to $350,000
• Service award: $20,000 to the Class Representative
After those deductions, the Net Settlement Fund is divided into two
buckets and distributed to class members:
70 percent — per capita (Unruh Civil Rights Act).
Seventy percent of the Net Settlement Fund is divided equally among all
participating class members under the Unruh Civil Rights Act, which provides
for statutory minimum damages on a per-violation basis rather than purely
economic restitution. Every participating class member receives the same per
capita share of this bucket.
30 percent — pro rata (Unfair Competition Law restitution).
Thirty percent of the Net Settlement Fund is distributed pro rata based on the
amount each class member actually paid Tinder for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold
during the class period. A class member who paid Tinder $200 during the class
period receives twice the pro rata share of a class member who paid Tinder
$100. This bucket reflects restitution of the alleged overcharge.
Plain English: all class members receive the same flat per capita
payment plus a variable pro rata payment scaled to what they actually
paid Tinder. The more you paid Tinder during the class period, the higher your
pro rata share — but every class member receives the flat per capita
piece regardless of how much they spent.
How to Choose Your Payment Method (Step by Step)
No claim form is required, but choosing your payment method on the official
settlement website is the surest way to receive your money quickly.
Step 1. Visit
tindercalclassaction.com.
Step 2. Enter the unique identifier from your direct notice (the
Settlement Administrator typically issues a Class Member ID, Notice ID, or
similar code). If you do not have your notice, use the "Verification Form" on
the website to confirm class membership against Tinder's records.
Step 3. Choose your preferred electronic payment method —
PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or ACH direct deposit — or select mailed
check if you prefer paper.
Step 4. Confirm your contact information (email, mobile number, mailing
address). Update anything that has changed since your last Tinder purchase.
Step 5. Submit your election by August 18, 2026.
What if I do nothing? The Settlement Administrator will attempt to pay
you electronically (PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle) using the contact information
Tinder has on file for you. If electronic delivery fails, the Administrator
will fall back to a mailed check at your last known address. Electing your own
method is the fastest and most reliable path.
Key Tinder Settlement Deadlines
• Opt-out (exclusion) deadline: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
(has passed)
• Objection deadline: Wednesday, April 8, 2026 (has passed)
• Final Approval Hearing: Wednesday, June 4, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in
the Los Angeles County Superior Court
• Payment method election deadline: Tuesday, August 18, 2026
• Verification Form deadline (for class members who did not
receive a direct notice): Tuesday, August 18, 2026
When Will I Get My Tinder Settlement Payment?
Payment timing depends on the Court's final approval and any appeals.
• Final Approval Hearing: June 4, 2026
• Settlement becomes final: after the Court enters final approval
and any appeal period passes (typically 30 to 60 days after the Final Approval
Order; longer if appeals are filed)
• Best case (no appeals): first payments could reach class members
in late 2026 or early 2027
• If appeals are filed: distribution can be delayed by 12 to 36
months or more
Make sure your contact information is current. If your email, mobile
number, or mailing address has changed since you last used Tinder, update it
on the official settlement website. Electronic payments (PayPal, Venmo, Zelle)
depend on the email/mobile combination Tinder has on file; an outdated phone
number or email can delay or block delivery.
What If I Do Nothing?
If you do nothing, you remain in the Class and will be bound by the
settlement's release of claims — meaning you cannot bring your own
lawsuit against Tinder for the age-based pricing conduct covered by this
settlement. In exchange, you receive your share of the Net Settlement Fund
automatically. The Settlement Administrator will attempt to pay you
electronically using the email and mobile number Tinder has on file (PayPal,
Venmo, or Zelle). If electronic delivery fails, the Administrator will fall
back to a mailed check.
For most class members, doing nothing is fine. Electing your own payment
method on the settlement website is the surest path to a fast payment.
How to Opt Out or Object (Deadlines Have Passed)
The opt-out and objection deadlines were both April 8, 2026 and have
passed. The Long-Form Notice and Settlement Agreement on the official
settlement website document the procedural requirements that applied. If you
believe you timely submitted a written exclusion or objection but have not
received confirmation, contact the Settlement Administrator through the
official settlement website's contact page.
Opting out meant being excluded from the Class, receiving no settlement
benefit, and preserving the right to sue Tinder separately for the same
age-based pricing conduct. Objecting meant remaining in the Class
(still eligible for payment) while asking the Court to reject or modify the
settlement.
Watch Out for Tinder Settlement Scams
Class action and dating-app settlement scams target consumers who are waiting
for payment. A few common-sense rules:
• Never pay a fee. Legitimate class action settlements never
require an activation fee, processing fee, or "release fee" to deliver
settlement payments. Anyone asking for payment to release your Tinder
settlement is running a scam.
• Never share your Tinder password, full credit card number, bank
login, or Social Security Number with anyone claiming to handle your
settlement by phone, text, or email. The Settlement Administrator does not
need this information to send your payment.
• Use the official settlement website only:tindercalclassaction.com. Type the URL
directly into your browser. Be cautious of any email or text linking to a
"Tinder settlement" page from a different domain.
• PayPal / Venmo / Zelle requests are pull, not push. The
Settlement Administrator will send you a payment using the contact
information on file — you should not be asked to send anything or
"verify" by transferring funds.
Other Active Age Discrimination and Consumer Class Action Settlements
Age discrimination claims under the Unruh Civil Rights Act and similar state
statutes have been increasingly common against subscription products that
differentiate pricing by age. Class membership in one age-discrimination
settlement does not affect eligibility for any other unrelated settlement.
