If you purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California at any time on or after March 2, 2015, when you were over the age of 29 (or at any time on or after March 2, 2016, when you were over the age of 28), you may be entitled to money from a $60.5 million class action settlement. The lawsuit alleged that Tinder charged older users more than younger users for the same premium subscription features in violation of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law. No claim form is required — just choose your payment method by August 18, 2026.
Tinder denies all allegations and that any class members were injured by its age-based pricing policy. The settlement was reached at mediation on September 10, 2025 and received preliminary court approval on January 13, 2026. Approximately 268,000 California Tinder users are covered by this settlement.
Who Qualifies for the Tinder Age Discrimination Settlement?
You qualify if you purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California at any time on or after March 2, 2015, when you were over the age of 29, or at any time on or after March 2, 2016, when you were over the age of 28.
If you received a notice via email, text message, or postcard, Tinder's records indicate you are a class member. Purchases must have been made in California during the class period. The class includes approximately 268,000 California users.
How Much Money Will I Get from the $60.5 Million Tinder Settlement?
Class members will share the net settlement fund on a per capita and pro rata basis. Each class member receives a share based on how much they paid for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold during the class period. Members who paid more to Tinder will receive a higher payment.
Before payments are calculated, the following will be deducted from the $60.5 million fund: attorney fees (up to one third, approximately $20.6 million plus accrued interest), litigation costs and expenses (up to $300,000), administration and notice costs (up to $350,000), and a $20,000 service award to the class representative. The remaining money will be divided among all participating class members. Class members covered under the Unruh Civil Rights Act will receive a share equal to 70 percent of the net settlement fund divided by the total number of class members. Members covered under the Unfair Competition Law will receive a share equal to 30 percent of the net settlement fund proportional to their individual payments to Tinder.
What Is Age-Based Pricing Discrimination?
Age-based pricing discrimination occurs when a company charges different prices for the same product or service based solely on a customer's age. California's Unruh Civil Rights Act prohibits arbitrary age-based discrimination in business practices, ensuring that all persons are entitled to full and equal accommodations in all business establishments. When companies charge older consumers more for the same service without a legally justified reason, they may violate state consumer protection laws.

What Was the Tinder Age Discrimination Lawsuit About?
The plaintiff, Allan Candelore, filed this class action lawsuit in May 2015 in Los Angeles Superior Court. The lawsuit alleged that Tinder charged users over 30 years old $19.99 per month for Tinder Plus, while users under 30 paid only $9.99 or $14.99 per month for the exact same features. The complaint claimed this age-based pricing violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law.
On July 15, 2024, the court certified the class. On January 17, 2025, the court denied Tinder's motion to require class members to arbitrate their claims. While Tinder's appeal was pending, the parties mediated and agreed to a $60.5 million settlement on September 10, 2025.
Tinder denies that it did anything wrong or violated any law, and denies that any class members were injured by its age-based pricing policy. The settlement does not mean that Tinder did anything wrong.
