Where Does the Cosequin Settlement Stand?
The $11.5 million settlement resolving claims that Nutramax Laboratories falsely marketed Cosequin dog joint supplements has not received final approval yet. Judge Fernando M. Olguin of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California held the final approval hearing on August 13, 2026 in Lytle v. Nutramax Laboratories, Inc., Case No. 5:19-cv-00835-FMO-SP, but did not rule that day. Nutramax denies the allegations and has not admitted wrongdoing.Instead, the judge ordered the parties to file declarations by August 28 disclosing any side agreements and giving the administrator's final claim count and claims rate, after which the motions would be treated as submitted. Those filings came in on August 28, the court granted a request to seal parts of the administrator's declaration on August 31, and the sealed version was filed September 1. As of that September 1 docket entry, there is no final approval order and no final judgment.

What the Court Asked For
At the August 13 hearing, the court asked whether the plaintiffs, class counsel or Nutramax had made any other agreements connected to the settlement. Class counsel said no such agreements existed and offered to put that in a declaration, which they filed on August 28 under the federal rule that requires parties to identify any side agreements made in connection with a class settlement.The same day, plaintiffs filed a supplemental declaration from Epiq Class Action and Claims Solutions, the settlement administrator, reporting the results of its fraud review and an updated count of validated claims. The court allowed portions of that declaration to be sealed, finding that publishing the details of Epiq's fraud-detection methods could help bad actors get around them.
More Than a Million Claims — and a Fraud Review
Epiq received 1,092,841 claim forms as of August 27, 2026: 1,091,650 submitted online and 1,191 on paper. That is a very large number for a settlement limited to California residents who bought Cosequin dog products between May 3, 2016 and May 6, 2022, and no receipt was required.Epiq screened the claims against 15 fraud categories and denied those showing significant signs of fraud. The public version of the filing redacts how many were rejected. A July 13, 2026 filing said that even if roughly 60% of claims were thrown out as fraudulent, more than 200,000 valid claims would remain. No class members objected to the settlement and none opted out.
When Will Cosequin Payments Go Out?
There is no payment date. Under the settlement agreement, nothing is paid until 30 days after the Final Effective Date — meaning the court must first grant final approval, and then the time to appeal must run out (or any appeal must be resolved).Valid claims are worth $25 per unit, up to $150 per household. If total valid claims exceed what is left in the fund after attorneys' fees, costs and service awards, every payment is reduced proportionally.
