Google Class Actions in October 2026: Assistant and Play Settlements Approved, UPS Tracking Suit Filed

Published October 24, 2026

Google Assistant users, children who used Google Play apps, Google Search users and Alphabet investors were all part of Google class action developments in October 2026, led by final approval of Google’s $68 million Assistant and $8.25 million Play children’s privacy settlements. No Google settlement is taking new claims; two pay automatically, and the pending lawsuits have nothing to file.

▼ Pending Cases Are Allegations Only

This article summarizes class action complaints, court rulings and settlements. The claims in the pending lawsuits are unproven allegations. Google denies them and has not been found liable in any of them except the Web & App Activity case described below, where its appeal is pending. None of the pending lawsuits has a settlement or claim form. This page is informational and is not legal advice.

What Is This About?

Google and its parent, Alphabet, face class actions over privacy, app-store pricing, advertising technology, AI training and subscription marketing, and several older cases have reached the payment stage. Two Google settlements won final approval in October, and two new suits were filed against the company.

None of the Google settlements is taking new claims as of October 24, 2026. The closest dates on the calendar are an early-December deadline for investors who want to lead a new Alphabet securities suit and a November 19 class certification hearing in the case over Google Analytics on tax-filing websites.

Two Google Settlements Won Final Approval

On October 13, 2026, U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman granted final approval to Google’s $68 million settlement of claims that Google Assistant devices recorded people who never said “Hey Google.” Claims closed August 27, 2026, and no payment date has been announced. Google denies the allegations. The Google Assistant settlement page tracks the payment status.

Ten days later, on October 23, Judge P. Casey Pitts approved the $8.25 million settlement over Google Play apps used by children under 13. According to the court, 656,974 claims were filed before the September 14 deadline, putting the gross recovery at about $12.55 per claim before fees and costs. The Google Play children’s privacy settlement page covers what comes next.

A third case, the California YouTube TV auto-renewal settlement in Dutcher v. Google LLC, had its final approval hearing in Santa Clara County Superior Court on October 15; no ruling had been posted as of October 24.

Settlements That Pay Without a Claim Form

The $700 million settlement Google reached with 52 state and territory attorneys general over Google Play Store pricing pays U.S. consumers who bought apps or in-app items through Google Play Billing between August 16, 2016 and September 30, 2023, automatically through PayPal or Venmo. A separate $5 million settlement pays California Google Play subscribers automatically over auto-renewal disclosures. Each has its own page: the $700 million Google Play Store settlement and the California Google Play subscription settlement.

Android cellular data claims are split between two cases. The $135 million national settlement in Taylor v. Google LLC won final approval on August 21, 2026 and now faces objector appeals, so payment is on hold. California users are covered instead by the $350 million Csupo settlement, reached after a $314.6 million jury verdict, which is awaiting distribution. Details are on the $135 million Android settlement page and the $350 million California Android settlement page.

Tax-Filing Pixel Case Heads to a Class Certification Hearing

Smith v. Google, LLC, filed in July 2023, alleges that Google Analytics code on the H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer websites sent filers’ tax information, such as income and refund amounts, to Google. Google opposes the claims and the bid for class certification. The plaintiffs filed their reply in support of class certification on October 9, 2026, and the court has set the hearing for November 19, 2026 at 3 p.m. before Judge P. Casey Pitts in San Jose. An October 5 joint filing by both sides says that date and the case deadlines after it were not changing.

No class has been certified. The Google tax-filing pixel lawsuit page explains the allegations and the proposed classes.

Two New Suits: UPS Package Tracking and Alphabet Investors

On October 9, 2026, a Google Search user filed Woodley v. Google LLC in San Jose against Google and UPS. It alleges that the “Track your package” widget in Search caused tracking numbers and other data to be sent to advertising and analytics companies, despite a promise that only the tracking number would go to the carrier. The Google and UPS tracking lawsuit page has the details.

A week earlier, on October 2, an investor filed Stewart v. Alphabet Inc., a securities class action alleging Alphabet and two executives told investors Gemini 3.5 Pro would launch in June 2026 while its training results were disappointing. It covers people who bought Alphabet stock between May 19 and July 16, 2026, and investors who want to lead the case must ask the court in early December. The Alphabet Gemini securities lawsuit page explains the class period. Both cases are at the complaint stage.

Ad Tech Publishers Case Moves Toward Trial

In New York, a certified class of U.S. website publishers that sold display ads through Google’s AdX exchange is seeking $1.72 billion over the fees Google charged them. On September 30, 2026, U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel denied Google’s motion for summary judgment against the class claims, clearing them for trial; no trial date has been set. The class is made up of publishers, not consumers. More is in the Google AdX publisher case report.

The $425.7 Million Web & App Activity Verdict on Appeal

A federal jury in San Francisco found Google liable on September 3, 2025 for collecting data from account holders who had turned off Web & App Activity, and awarded about $425.7 million. The trial judge left the judgment standing on August 28, 2026, and Google filed its appeal to the Ninth Circuit on September 21, 2026. No money can be distributed until the appeal is resolved. The Web & App Activity verdict page covers who is in the class.

AI, Camera and Subscription Suits Still Pending

Several 2026 suits are at an early stage. Thele v. Google LLC challenges Gemini “smart features” in Gmail, Chat and Meet; after a July dismissal the plaintiffs refiled, and Google moved to dismiss again on September 29. Three suits over Nest cameras’ Familiar Face Detection were consolidated in September as In re Nest Privacy Litigation. Subscribers allege in a July suit that YouTube Premium is not as ad-free as advertised, and publishers and authors sued in July over Gemini AI training. None has a certified class.

Each has its own page: the Gemini Gmail privacy lawsuit, the Nest facial recognition lawsuits, the YouTube Premium lawsuit and the publishers’ Gemini AI training lawsuit.

Questions

Is there a Google class action settlement open for new claims?

Not as of October 24, 2026. The most recent Google claim deadlines, for the Google Assistant, Google Play children’s privacy and YouTube TV settlements, all passed between August 27 and September 14, 2026. Two Google settlements pay automatically with no claim form: the $700 million Google Play Store settlement with state attorneys general and a $5 million Google Play subscription settlement for California subscribers.

When will the Google Assistant settlement pay?

No payment date has been announced. Judge Beth Labson Freeman granted final approval to the $68 million settlement in In re Google Assistant Privacy Litigation on October 13, 2026. The settlement agreement calls for payments to people who filed by the August 27, 2026 deadline within 60 days after the settlement’s effective date, which comes only after the time for appeals runs out or any appeal is resolved.

Is the Google tax-filing pixel lawsuit going to trial in November?

The next scheduled event in Smith v. Google, LLC, No. 5:23-cv-03527 in federal court in San Jose, is a November 19, 2026 hearing on the plaintiffs’ motion for class certification before Judge P. Casey Pitts. An October 5, 2026 joint filing says that hearing date and the case deadlines after it were unchanged. No class has been certified, and the allegations that Google Analytics collected tax-filing data are unproven.

What is the new Google and UPS lawsuit about?

Woodley v. Google LLC, filed October 9, 2026 in federal court in San Jose, alleges that the “Track your package” feature in Google Search caused users’ tracking numbers and other data to be sent to advertising and analytics companies, despite a promise that only the tracking number would go to the carrier. It names Google and UPS. The case is at the complaint stage and the allegations are unproven.
