Curtis International Ltd. is expanding its recall of Frigidaire-brand minifridges, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The expansion, announced January 15, 2026, was assigned recall number 26-199 and covers about 330,000 additional units of the 6-can minifridge model EFMIS121 with serial numbers A2001 through A2310. Curtis International previously recalled about 634,000 minifridges in July 2024, so the action now covers nearly one million units in total.
The recalled model EFMIS121 minifridges, which have "Frigidaire" printed on the front, were sold in red exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023 for about $30. The minifridges were manufactured by ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co. Ltd., of China, and imported by Curtis International. The model and serial number are printed on a label on the back of the unit, which is what consumers use to confirm whether their minifridge is included in the expanded recall.
According to the CPSC recall notice, the minifridges' internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. Curtis International received at least six reports of model EFMIS121 minifridges catching fire, with property damage reported. The earlier July 2024 recall of the related models was tied to more than $700,000 in reported property damage.
Because the units can ignite while plugged in, the CPSC advises consumers to stop using the recalled minifridges immediately, unplug them, and follow the official recall instructions rather than continuing to use or store the appliance.
You are covered by the expanded recall if you own a Frigidaire-brand 6-can minifridge, model EFMIS121, with a serial number between A2001 and A2310. These were sold only at Target and Target.com between January 2020 and October 2023. If you own one of the models covered by the original July 2024 recall — EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, or EFMIS175 — you are also eligible for the remedy through the same official recall site. You do not need a receipt to participate.
Curtis International is handling the recall through the official minifridge recall site. There is no cost to participate:
• Stop using the recalled minifridge immediately and unplug it
• Register on the official minifridge recall site and upload a photo showing the model and serial number
• Cut the power cord and write "RECALL" in permanent marker on the front door of the unit, then upload a photo showing those steps
• Dispose of the minifridge in accordance with local and state regulations
• Curtis International will review your registration and photos and, if your unit is verified as an affected unit, send your refund by physical check
The photos of the unit take the place of a receipt, so you can still receive the refund even if you no longer have proof of purchase — uploading a receipt or invoice is optional. Refunds are only available for affected units that can be verified from your photos. All of the steps and the remedy details are explained on the official recall site.
Recalls involving widely sold consumer products that have caught fire sometimes draw class action investigations. As of this writing, OpenClassActions.com had not independently confirmed a filed complaint, case number, or court tied to the expanded EFMIS121 recall. If a class action is confirmed, this page will be updated. For now, the recall remedy — a refund through Curtis International's official recall site — is the official path for affected consumers. Anyone who experienced a fire or property damage from a recalled minifridge should document the damage and report the incident to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
Which Frigidaire minifridges are part of the expanded recall?
The expansion adds Frigidaire-brand 6-can minifridge model EFMIS121 with serial numbers A2001 through A2310. They were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023 for about $30. This adds to the earlier July 2024 recall of models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149 and EFMIS175, bringing the total to nearly one million units.
Why are the minifridges being recalled?
The minifridges' internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. Curtis International received at least six reports of model EFMIS121 minifridges catching fire, with property damage.
How do I get a refund for my recalled minifridge?
Stop using the minifridge and register for a refund on the official recall site, recallrtr.com/minifridge. You will need to upload a photo showing the model and serial number, then unplug and cut the power cord, write "RECALL" in permanent marker on the front door, and upload a photo showing those steps. Consumers should dispose of the unit in accordance with local and state regulations.
Do I need a receipt to get the refund?
No receipt is required, but documentation is. The remedy is photo-based: you must upload a photo showing the model and serial number and a photo of the unit with the cord cut and "RECALL" written on the front door. Those photos take the place of a receipt.
Is there a deadline to claim the minifridge refund?
No deadline has been announced. CPSC recalls generally remain open, but consumers should stop using the minifridge immediately because of the fire risk and register for the refund on the official recall site as soon as possible.
