A Second Campaign Covers 239,131 Ram 1500 Trucks
On September 1, 2026 FCA US filed a second Part 573 report for the same failure. NHTSA campaign 26V560, carried internally as recall 83D, covers 239,131 model-year 2025 and 2026 Ram 1500 trucks built between October 6, 2023 and February 23, 2026 whose rearview image may also fail to display when the driver shifts into reverse. The remedy is the same free radio software update, over the air or at a dealer.FCA US planned to notify dealers on September 9, 2026 and to mail owner letters between September 24 and October 2, 2026. VINs for that campaign became searchable on September 9, 2026. Both reports name Harman Becker Automotive Systems as the radio supplier, and both cite the same section of FMVSS 111. The two production windows overlap in part and neither report says whether an individual truck can fall under both campaigns, so a Ram 1500 owner should check the VIN rather than assume the first campaign already covers it.
How FCA US Reached the Recall
The chronology in the 26V531 report starts on May 7, 2026, when the company's Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization opened an investigation into a loss of rearview image display. Through May and June 2026 that group and FCA US engineering reviewed warranty data, field records, production records and customer assistance records. The organization recognized the issue on July 15, 2026, and on August 6, 2026 the company's Vehicle Regulations Committee determined that a noncompliance with FMVSS 111 exists.The Ram 1500 campaign followed a similar path on a longer timeline: an investigation opened March 17, 2026, a review of warranty and field records through June, engineering meetings from July into August, and a noncompliance determination on August 26, 2026.
Neither report describes a crash, injury or death connected to the condition, and neither carries a do-not-drive or park-outside advisory. Both state that no warning appears in the vehicle when the image fails.
What Owners Should Do
Check the VIN first. Owners of vehicles that support firmware over-the-air updates will see a prompt on the media screen when the new radio software is available for their vehicle; owners whose vehicles are not capable of an over-the-air update need a dealer visit, where the software is installed by USB. Owner letters for the larger campaign were scheduled to go out between September 1 and September 25, 2026 in phases.Until the update is installed, look through the windows and mirrors and check the area behind the vehicle before backing. A rearview camera is an aid to a direct check, not a replacement for one. FCA US told NHTSA it would use the general reimbursement plan it has on file, the standard process for owners who paid out of pocket to have the same condition repaired before the recall was announced.
