Honda Recalls 325,588 Odyssey Minivans After Rearview Cameras Can Fail

Published August 12, 2026

Honda has recalled 325,588 Odyssey minivans because water can enter the rearview-camera housing and cause the image to fail. The campaign revisits some vans included in an earlier camera action and uses an improved replacement design.

What Is Being Recalled?

American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 325,588 model-year 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey minivans because water can enter the rearview camera and corrode its printed circuit board. If the camera fails, the image may not display when the driver shifts into reverse, reducing visibility behind the van and increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA campaign 26V423 says the condition does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 for rear visibility. Honda dealers will replace the camera with an improved part free of charge. Owner letters were expected to begin August 24, 2026.

Which Honda Odyssey Vans Are Included?

The recall population consists of certain 2018, 2019 and 2020 Odyssey minivans manufactured from January 24, 2017 through July 22, 2020. Those dates define the broad production window, not automatic eligibility. Check the 17-character VIN through the NHTSA recall lookup or ask a Honda dealer about campaign HOX.

Why Is Honda Recalling the Camera Again?

The 2026 campaign expands NHTSA recall 20V438 and includes vehicles that may have received the earlier product update. Honda's Part 573 report says the previous replacement camera design could still allow water intrusion. Corrosion on the circuit board can interrupt the video signal, leaving the center display blank or without the required rear image.

Honda reviewed 1,648 warranty claims associated with the condition through June 25, 2026. The company said it was not aware of injuries or deaths related to the defect when it filed the report.

What Should Odyssey Owners Do?

Schedule the free repair after confirming the VIN. Until the replacement is completed, look through the windows and mirrors and physically check the area behind the van before backing. A working camera is an aid; it does not replace a direct check for children, pedestrians or objects outside the camera's view.

This rearview-camera recall is separate from OCA's coverage of a Honda and Acura front-camera defect lawsuit. The recall discussed here concerns the rear camera on certain Odyssey minivans and provides a free dealer replacement through the safety-recall system.
