Target Up & Up baby wipes recalled over possible Burkholderia contamination

What Is Being Recalled?

Target is voluntarily recalling its store-brand Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes after customer complaints of product discoloration and FDA testing that identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples. The recall was announced June 4, 2026 and posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on June 5, 2026. The wipes were manufactured by a supplier, Sapro Temizlik Ürünleri, and sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com.

According to the FDA, use of products contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli may result in serious and life-threatening infections. Because the wipes are used mainly on newborns, infants, and young children — whose immature immune systems make them particularly vulnerable to opportunistic infection — the FDA warns the bacteria are more likely to spread into the bloodstream in these groups, potentially leading to sepsis or pneumonia. In healthy individuals, use on skin with minor lesions is more likely to cause a local infection. The remedy is simple: stop using the wipes and return them to any Target store for a full refund.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the recalled wipes right away and keep them away from infants and young children. Return the product to any Target store for a full refund — the recall notice does not require you to keep or present a receipt. If your child used the recalled wipes and shows signs of skin, eye, or other infection, contact a healthcare provider. Target has said it and the manufacturer received consumer complaints and adverse-event reports alleging discoloration and symptoms such as skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections potentially associated with the product; those reports remain under investigation. For the full remedy details, including the complete UPC and date-code list, see the official FDA recall notice below.

Is There a Lawsuit?

Yes. A proposed consumer class action, Finek v. Target Corporation (No. 1:26-cv-06966), was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois over the recalled wipes. The complaint alleges the products were contaminated and that Target's recall and refund process left some buyers without full relief. Those are unproven allegations — no class has been certified and there is nothing to claim through the lawsuit at this stage. You can read the details on our Target baby wipes class action lawsuit page. The recall refund at any Target store is separate from the lawsuit and available now.
