What Changed Recently?
The claim period is under way in Quinn v. B.D. Holt Co., a class action in the 37th Judicial District Court of Bexar County, Texas. The lawsuit alleges that during a targeted cyberattack on Holt Group's network in December 2024, files that may have held names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and financial account information were accessed. Holt Group denies any wrongdoing and liability, and the court has not decided who is right; the parties settled to avoid the cost and risk of continuing the case. The notice program and settlement website are now live.
Who Qualifies?
The settlement class is everyone residing in the United States whose private information was potentially accessed or acquired in the data incident Holt Group experienced between December 26 and December 27, 2024, and who was sent a letter notifying them of it. The settlement website says that anyone who received notice of the incident is a class member according to Holt Group's records.
Holt Group and its affiliates, directors, officers and agents, government entities, the assigned judge and court staff, anyone who opts out, and anyone who carried out the attack are excluded. Neither the notice nor the settlement website states how many people are in the class.
How Much Can You Get?
Every class member can claim two years of three-bureau credit monitoring, which comes with $1 million in fraud protection and access to a fraud resolution agent. The cash options sit on top of that:
Cash Payment A, documented losses: reimbursement of up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket losses caused by the incident that occurred between December 26, 2024 and December 1, 2026 and were not already reimbursed, such as identity theft or fraud losses, credit report, monitoring or freeze fees, the cost of replacing IDs, and postage to contact banks.
Cash Payment B, lost time: up to four hours at $20 an hour, a maximum of $80, for time spent on tasks such as changing passwords, checking accounts for suspicious activity or researching the incident.
Cash Payment C, alternate cash: a one-time $50 payment instead of Cash Payment A or B, with no proof or explanation needed.
Cash Payments A and B can be claimed together, for up to $5,080. The $50 payment is the alternative to both. The notice describes these as amounts Holt Group has agreed to pay on approved claims; it does not describe a settlement fund, an overall cap or any pro rata reduction. Attorneys' fees, costs and the service award are also paid by Holt Group, separately from class member benefits.
What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?
The online claim form opens only with the LoginID and PIN printed at the top of the notice Holt Group's administrator sent. That makes this a proof-required settlement even though the $50 option needs no receipts. The printed claim form asks for the LoginID only "if known," so a class member without the notice can still file by mail.
The documented-loss payment requires reasonable documentation such as receipts. The notice says a personal certification, declaration or affidavit does not count as documentation on its own, though it can be included to explain other records. The lost-time payment and the $50 alternate cash require no documents.
What Is the Deadline?
Online claims must be submitted by December 1, 2026, and mailed claims must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2026. The notice does not give a time of day or timezone for the online deadline. Requests to opt out and objections are due November 16, 2026.
How Do You Take Action?
Claims are filed through the official Holt Group Data Settlement website, which also has a printable claim form for mailing. The online form asks for the LoginID and PIN from the notice, the class member's contact information, and the benefits chosen, plus receipts for any documented-loss claim.
What Happens Next?
The court will consider final approval at a hearing on December 16, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. Central Time, held by video conference. The notice warns that the date and time may change. Benefits are distributed only if the court grants final approval and after any appeals are resolved, and no payment date has been announced.
Can a class member take the $50 payment and the credit monitoring?
Yes. Credit monitoring is a separate box on the claim form. The $50 alternate cash payment replaces only the two other cash options, documented losses and lost time, so a class member can pair the $50 with two years of credit monitoring.
Can documented losses and lost time be claimed together?
Yes. Cash Payment A (up to $5,000 in documented losses) and Cash Payment B (up to four hours at $20 an hour) can be combined, for a maximum of $5,080. Choosing either one rules out the $50 alternate cash payment.
What counts as documentation for a Holt Group loss claim?
Receipts or similar records showing the amount spent or lost, for expenses that occurred between December 26, 2024 and December 1, 2026 and were not already reimbursed. The notice lists identity theft and fraud losses, fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or credit freezes, the cost of replacing IDs, and postage to contact banks. A personal certification or affidavit alone does not count, though it can be added to explain other documents.
Do attorneys' fees reduce what class members receive?
No. Class counsel will ask the court for $250,000 in fees and costs, and the class representative will ask for a $5,000 service award. The notice says Holt Group pays those amounts itself, rather than out of the benefits to class members.
What if the notice with the LoginID and PIN was lost?
The online claim form cannot be opened without them. The settlement website explains how to ask the administrator to resend the LoginID and PIN, and a printed claim form, on which the LoginID is requested only if known, can be mailed instead with a postmark no later than December 1, 2026.
