YouTube TV Auto-Renewal Class Action Settlement — California Subscribers Could Get About $92

Published July 17, 2026

This settlement resolves claims that Google and YouTube did not fully disclose YouTube TV's automatic-renewal terms to California subscribers. If you paid for at least one YouTube TV renewal between February 2017 and October 2021, you can file for an estimated $92 cash payment by August 30, 2026.

YouTube TV auto-renewal class action settlement for California subscribers — Dutcher v. Google, estimated $92 pro rata cash payment

What Is This Settlement About?

If you paid for YouTube TV in California, Google may owe you a cash payment. A proposed $7,500,000 settlement has been reached in a class action, Dutcher v. Google LLC, et al., filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara. The lawsuit claims that YouTube and Google did not follow all of the disclosure requirements of California's Automatic Renewal Law (the "ARL") when they sold automatically renewing YouTube TV subscriptions.

YouTube and Google deny all of the allegations and say the settlement is not an admission that any law was broken. They agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation. If you qualify, you can file a claim to receive a share of the fund — the parties estimate roughly $92.26 per person.

Who Qualifies?

You are a member of the Settlement Class if you are a person in California who, from February 1, 2017 to October 29, 2021, enrolled in and paid for at least one renewal term of a YouTube TV subscription purchased through YouTube billing for personal, family, or household purposes.

You are not included if any of the following apply:

• You enrolled in YouTube TV through an iOS-based mobile app from Apple's App Store
• Your YouTube TV subscription was cancelled during a free trial
• Your YouTube TV subscription was fully refunded

YouTube and Google employees, and the judge presiding over the case along with court staff, are also excluded from the class.

How Much Can You Get?

The parties estimate each participating class member will receive approximately $92.26. Payments are made on a pro rata basis from the net settlement fund — the $7,500,000 fund minus attorneys' fees and costs, administration expenses, and a service award, all subject to court approval. Because the amount is split among everyone who files a valid claim, your exact payment depends on how many claims are submitted and what the court ultimately approves.

The settlement fund is non-reversionary, which means no money goes back to Google. You can choose to be paid by a mailed check or by an electronic method, including ACH transfer, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or a virtual prepaid card. If any funds remain after all payments are made, the court may direct them to a nonprofit organization.

How Do You File a Claim?

To get a payment, you must complete and submit a valid claim form online or by mail no later than August 30, 2026. A mailed claim form must be postmarked on or before that date.

To file online, you log in with the Login ID and PIN printed on the notice that was mailed or emailed to you. If you would rather use paper, you can download a claim form from the official settlement website and mail it in. You can find the claim form and full instructions on the official settlement website below.

Do You Need Proof?

You do not need receipts, but the online claim does require an administrator-issued identifier. To file online you must enter the Login ID and PIN from your notice, which is why this settlement is marked Proof Required: Yes.

If you cannot find your Login ID and PIN, you have two options. You can request them through the official settlement website's contact page by providing your full name and mailing address. Or you can file a paper claim form by mail — the mailed form lets you claim using the email address or phone number linked to your YouTube TV account, with the Login ID listed only "if known." All claims are filed under penalty of perjury and may be verified by the settlement administrator.

What Are Your Other Options?

If you do nothing, you will not receive a payment, and you will give up your right to sue Google and YouTube over the claims resolved by this settlement.

If you do not want to be part of the settlement, you can exclude yourself (opt out) by mailing a written request to the settlement administrator, postmarked no later than August 30, 2026. Opting out means you keep the right to sue separately but receive no payment. If you would rather stay in the class but tell the court you disagree with the settlement, you can object in writing by the same August 30, 2026 deadline. You cannot both object and exclude yourself — objecting is only available if you remain in the class.
